The big literary discourse on twitter right now is whether The Hobbit—a children’s book that won children’s lit awards and was literally written for the author’s children—is appropriate reading for children or in fact such a difficult book most adults can’t “get their head around” it.

I can barely get through The Hobbit in my 40's and not because I can't read, I just read better books. It's pretty bad. When I was a kid I was so bored by TH I just never got past the first chapter. It's literally aimed at adults I believe was the point. Kids can read it sure but the themes dont hit
...as someone who had it read TO me starting in kindergarten, and started reading it in second grade and all of it in third, and then all of Lord of the Rings in fourth, and this directly leading to a love of reading, this strikes me as ludicrous and weird. HOWEVER. This is from ppl remaining on X😵💫
Aaaaaaaand this is why literacy has gone down the toilet. Grade 11/12?? I was reading these books on my own before Grade 3. Heck I read Chamber for the first time when I was grounded for a week back when I was back in grade 2. Gotta find a way to get kids reading again, too much good stuff out there
My eldest and middle children read the progression as they aged thru it during release and my littlest listened to the audio books hell yeah Jim Dale pretty much over and over until when he was eleven and we all went to universal. It's dreadful who she turned out to be but HP was big in their lives.
After listening to over 10hrs of podcasts from @rangedtouch.bsky.social I can confidently assert it's a children's book.
it's somewhat appropriate but I mean its pretty violent. Just boring violence. Sure the author wrote it for kids, but its clear to anyone who can read that its a story about adults doing adult things, minus the sex of an adult story. I would have enjoyed dwarves getting it on with each other however
I read The Hobbit when I was 9yrs old. And then my 5th grade teacher read it to us in class. I was on to the Lord of the Rings by that time.

Our goal is to give our customers an exceptional experience.myself.myRead it when I was about 8 or 9 cause the small primary school I was going to at the time had a copy in their fairly small "library". (small classroom with some books) It was a long time ago, but I remember it being a fairly easy straight forward read & I feel bad for adults who have trouble with it
