Reminded of last summer when Spouse almost died, and they had to put him on an air ambulance to take him interstate for emergency surgery. I had no idea how we would pay. Nobody should have to worry about costs when facing death. The VA covered it, eventually. It cost more than our house is worth.

it is hard to express to someone who was not raised this way that our first thought on getting sick is not "will this treatment cure me?" but "can I get this treatment without going bankrupt???" and it is pretty fucking twisted that we are so numb to how horrifying that is

Direct kitty needs I haven't been able to cover recently, besides vet fees, include buying a bale of clean straw for refreshing their shelters. I fortunately have the stuff on hand to do necessary seasonal repairs, but I want to clean and repair the same day to reduce stress on the kitties.

I hate to ask, because things are awful all over, but there's been no help with the feral cats since the beginning of this awful year. I'm so broke I'm putting off fixing my dryer and stove, both of which are broken. It costs me about 200 a month to feed them, and there's no money for TNR at all.
