I don’t think the Constitution is the be all end all one-size-fits-all explanation. But America’s government–and its political settlement more generally, with elites willing to buy into the system instead of caudilloing it–absolutely HAS to be prominent in any explanation.

Your point was “America’s success is due to having an easy geographical position”. My point was “America GAINED a dominant geographical position by massively outperforming its neighbors”. None of that was inevitable or even likely. Again, don’t compare it to Europe. Look to other American states.

Yet the greater buy in for our political system meant America could completely wipe the floor with what should have on paper been a peer nation. The only reason we didn’t annex Mexico entirely was racism and fear of the slavery problem.
