Seems pretty telling the AI evangelists have to make up things that have not happened to defend since it hasn't done anything terribly useful to actually point to.
Hillary MonahanNobody wants predictive data models to stop working for the people in medicine. Or translating ancient Pompeii texts. Or the other ways we were already using it. We want it to stop replacing workers, killing the environment, and stealing from artists. Hope that clarifies.
I don't think it's "snobby" to dislike a movie? And a little bizarre to imply an artist should have to praise anything that indirectly earned them money
Mike RothschildEmily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey is the number 4 book on Amazon, and advertises itself as the inspiration for Christopher Nolan's film, which Emily Wilson is here taking a giant crap all over. I can't decide if this is gutsy beyond belief or the snobbiest thing anyone has ever done.
A sad truth the last 10 years have revealed is very few people at any point on the political spectrum are truly anti-imperialist. Mostly only a few anarchists. Everyone else is quite fine with imperialism, slaughter, and war and just chooses different teams to root for.
Faine GreenwoodI guess I can see why you wouldn’t think Russia was waging a brutal colonialist war in Ukraine if you also put scare quotes around the word “colonialist” in reference to the literal Mongols, lol

theres this one tumblr post ive seen talking about that phenomenon but w fiction writing that I think about often
This is a really good point. There's actually a c) option, which is paying for some kind of official corporate algorithm/platform to generate the content. I think I lean toward b and c dominating and a failing. bsky.app/profile/mper...
Michael PershanCertainly I can imagine "TikTok for Fanfic" where the feed learns your tastes by delivering you infinite GenAI fanfic stories. I have no idea how broad the appeal of that would be or how that would work with novels.
In some ways this is just accelerating existing trends obviously. Some people already spend more time reading Harry Potter fan fics than they do reading Rowling's work. The difference is it might cut off the fan fic to trad pub pipeline. Right now, a bunch of bestselling books started out as HP fics
