This is a general tech evangelist move. I've seen the same thing with e.g. Elon Musk building cities on Mars

Seems pretty telling the AI evangelists have to make up things that have not happened to defend since it hasn't done anything terribly useful to actually point to.

First time I've ever seen this sign at a pool and I've been in thousands of pools which would indicate that this sign needed to be made. They spent money having this printed.

I don't think it's "snobby" to dislike a movie? And a little bizarre to imply an artist should have to praise anything that indirectly earned them money

A sad truth the last 10 years have revealed is very few people at any point on the political spectrum are truly anti-imperialist. Mostly only a few anarchists. Everyone else is quite fine with imperialism, slaughter, and war and just chooses different teams to root for.

But what I think matters myself is less skill or effort than... uniqueness? The idea a work had to be made by the person who made it and isn't just something so cookie cutter that anyone could churn it out and/or, these days, be produced instantly by copy and pasting a simple prompt into ChatGPT

Maybe, but "there's no way to judge anything" has gone badly for the culture imo and either way it will break in the wake of infinite slop flood.

Yes this is kind of what I was getting at in the first tweet. Much more content will be thought of as "content" instead of art in the near future. At least that's my bet.

Maybe if you're a big Star Wars fan you watch a few theatrical releases made mostly by people, but you also go on some platform for infinite official Star Wars AI content where you can plug in some prompts ("Wookie vs Ewok war!") and get an "official" AI story back?

This is a really good point. There's actually a c) option, which is paying for some kind of official corporate algorithm/platform to generate the content. I think I lean toward b and c dominating and a failing. bsky.app/profile/mper...

I guess a big question for me is if we accept a lot of people will be happy with GenAI outputs--I think inevitable but what % of population is unclear--then will they a) want to pay money to consume GenAI outputs that others prompted? or b) just prompt their own stuff.

In some ways this is just accelerating existing trends obviously. Some people already spend more time reading Harry Potter fan fics than they do reading Rowling's work. The difference is it might cut off the fan fic to trad pub pipeline. Right now, a bunch of bestselling books started out as HP fics
