Subsidies in groceries are usually more effective if you subsidize demand than subsidizing supply; it’s the opposite of housing.

In LA, we’ve had a bunch of attempts to fix the “food deserts,” and as far as I know, what usually happens is that people in those areas have limited adoption, often bc they don’t have time or inclination to cook enough, & if you just give them cash, they can buy groceries they want.

Why quietly?

They’re reminiscent of a lot of clientelism & aren’t great economically, and I think a lot of the “food desert” rhetoric ignores revealed preferences and is pretty classist, and my general preference is to just give people money and let them decide how to spend it instead of doing a lot of subsidies

This season of Sugar: I don’t understand at all how the economics of this “Fire Sale” The cop floods the area around supportive housing with fentanyl, the medical examiner covers up overdose deaths, & somehow that lets them steal IDs, & get “money from the federal government” What?

Either that or “the green represents our many parks” generic stuff when it’s usually a design element from when they had an ethnic mascot like the Dissolute Hibernian or the Polygamous Sheik.

I think you don’t have a great mental model about how electoral politics functions and sound like you are getting your brain cooked by watching Fox News. If you want a healthier, more effective approach & mirror what the GOP does: ignore attacks on fringe left& use that to pivot to attacking the GOP

The one I’m talking about is Forest Lawn in LA, a stretch where the two ends are controlled by stop signs, so people punching it in the middle doesn’t get them through faster, but does regularly kill people because of top speed, & it’s between two cemetery franchises who ran a disinfo campaign

I had a friend recently describe one of the highlights of his trip to Paris being riding the new Elsa ride at EuroDisney and I was like, well, there’s a heat wave, she’s in Frozen, was it, like, a water ride or something refreshing? & no, just a roller coaster, & I think that’s a missed opportunity
