It seems to me that people who (correctly) say that "their" can be either plural or singular, depending on context, should be open to the possibility that "guys" can be gendered or non-gendered, depending on context.

I think it started as "let's stop saying 'you guys' to avoid default gendering people as masculine" in the heady days of ~2015-2020
