One of the reasons it was so hard for me to get into superhero comics when I was a kid is that by the mid-1980s all the DC and Marvel stories were written under the assumption that readers were already familiar with decades' worth of backstory across multiple titles. Now the movies are the same.

Behold my bold proclamation: if new scenes are critical to understanding a new film, those scenes should be part of said new film and not part of a new release of an old one.
