Somehow or other I managed to see at least some episodes of The Prisoner when it aired as a summer replacement in the US in (IIRC) 1969. I was about 5. (Rover gave me nightmares.) Stuck in my head for years. It was 15 years before I got to see any full episodes. It really does hold up.

Criterion Channel

Alex Cox on THE PRISONER and the Genius of Patrick McGoohan 📺 Watch all 17 episodes of the landmark 1960s television series! This is the first in Criterion’s new YouTube series of 5 introductions to THE PRISONER by Cox, writer, director and author of I AM (NOT) A NUMBER: DECODING THE PRISONER (2018)

Also I'm probably gonna regret this but I think I don't get 'Charlie Brown Had Hoes'. Is the joke that someone could so confidently assert something so transparently wrong? If so, OK, yeah, it's funny! I just keep wanting it to be something...I dunno, deeper?

Widow's Bay DSA

I saw someone suggest Nolan made Odysseus more brooding because Americans don't have any cultural background with the trickster hero and that might be the "Charlie Brown had hoes" of cultural anthropology

Not enough is written about the fact that in the US, any spiteful lunatic can launch a family-destroying machine at virtually anybody with a single phone call and a few made-up allegations. And a similar machine can be called to launch a heavily-armed murder squad at ANYONE, even those without kids.

Exclusive: Officials relied on a vague and unsubstantiated allegation to separate Pete Buttigieg from his young twins last month. Previously unreported police records, obtained by The Post, and an interview with the apparent complainant offer the most detailed account yet: wapo.st/4wt1Zjs
