Some people are threatened by the idea that maybe Christopher Nolan isn't as profound as they make him out to be. He's a fine filmmaker who's especially effective when he does elevated pulp. But to have someone of Wilson's stature argue that he's actually kind of vapid is status threatening.

Really nailed my own dissatisfaction with this movie. I cry every time I read the poem, especially by the end when Odysseus reunites with his son and then his wife. My eyes were dry watching this adaptation.

It's ironic that the Retvrn crowd romanticizes Greece and Rome as the time the West was most powerful when the West really reached its greatest influence during the Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution when it convinced much of the world to adopt its science, economics, law, and institutions.
