It's quintessental "YOUR NAME 2" and the story falls apart in the third act but visually it's my favorite work of his - aside from GARDEN OF WORDS - sooooooooooo I fuck with it. ...might be time for a revisit. lol.

Yep. After years of Shinkai making the most beautiful but emotionally inert movies - I have a soft spot for GARDEN OF WORDS - he found a way to take all his themes & put them in an audience pleasing masterpiece. I've loved all his works since but they do all try too hard to be YOUR NAME 2.

I also thought Oscar Isaac was THE choice to replace Pacino but that apparently wasn't enought to get the movie greenlit. Oh well. I'm sure Mann will make a Mannificent movie regardless. But they better have HEAT 3 ready to go cause THAT'S likely the movie people think HEAT 2 is.

I'm not mad but when Austin Butler was up for the part THAT was the perfect casting and I wish they went with that.

I think movie itself will rule but it's nothing like the og HEAT. 2 the book is mostly about Shiherlis (Kilmer/DiCaprio) getting up to "Cool Mann shit" off in South America before Hanna (Pacino/Bale) finally realizing there's one guy left from McCauley's crew to get. Which would be HEAT 3.

SUZUME means "Sit on my face" in japanese. ... i think.

Thing is I love Makoto Shinkai movies - even the one where he's working through his kink of wanting to be a chair women sit on & I see you, my man - but I don't think he'll ever recapture the magic of YOUR NAME. so my ass - like his specific kink - will be sat in a theater and crying in 4K again.

Werid fun factoid: Michael Mann's literary agent for the HEAT 2 book is the guy James Cameron had put the writer's rooms ideas onto the page and in story form for AVATAR 5.

Reading TheWrap article about HEAT 2 and thing is if Michael Mann is adapting his novel one-to-one he needs to have a HEAT 3 written & ready to go cause his (very good) book ends on a lame cliffhanger. And good luck convincing DiCaprio - who has never played the same character twice - to return.

Alejandro Jodorowsky's DUNE would've been an awful adaptation of Frank Herbert's DUNE but it would have been an insanely wonderful and memorable movie. It all sounded like pure joyous insanity!
