Yep; the reason “CAPITALISM GOOD, SOCIALISM BAD” worked so well for so long in the United States is because there were periods in history when capitalism DID seem to work out OK for most Americans. When it fails badly, such as the 1929 crash & Depression, other options start looking pretty nice.

Imagine two people go to a gallery exhibition and photograph the same painting. The first runs that photo in a local paper alongside a review of the exhibition. The second sells unauthorized prints of the painting. How the content is USED makes the key difference of whether it’s “stolen” or not.

Cory is a smart guy and I usually agree with him but I think you nailed it here. A drinking fountain and a waterboarding torture session both involve water being squirted into someone’s face, but that doesn’t mean we should condone waterboarding because drinking fountains use similar technology.

Agreed. I can think of "reverse Mandela effect" examples too, like how some people will SWEAR that the Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz didn't bring a handgun to kill the Wicked Witch when they watched the movie as kids because it doesn't feel like it SHOULD be there.
