growing up American really gets you in weird ways sometimes; my chemist here in England is always saying “bring back any unused medications for disposal” and I’m like “but what if i or someone i know needs them in future and can’t afford them” so now i have a drawer of expired meds i didn’t pay for

When we first landed in Glasgow, we used to linger at the reception desk on our way out of the surgery, to make sure they had a fair chance to grab us for a bill. Margaret was hospitalised for a short visit, and we walked out through the lobby as if we were walking through treacle. Not skipping out!
1st Dr’s visit in England I confused the staff by stopping at the check-in desk on my way out to see if they needed me to do anything else—I knew it was free, but it seemed like there had to be an extra step, like maybe I needed to fill in a form or something? Back in the US & I miss the NHS so much
