All they ever did for me was make me ravenously hungry. Stock you house with crunchy snacks like carrots and apples.

My reaction to starting ADHD medicine was similar as they led me to start napping more. I am definitely doing ADHD meds wrong.

Did you have weird dreams? Steroids for hip inflammation gave me seriously weird dreams for a week. I mean my dreams are always on the absurd side, but this was ridiculous.

10 days of prednisone shouldn’t be that big of a deal. I was on it for two years and I swelled up like a balloon and laughed at everyone’s jokes and did all my crying on the inside.

Don't they make everyone sleepier? They do me, but they mess with my Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis a lot.

Yeah, the first day I was on steroids for strep throat, I slept a total of 30 mins. I was so sleep deprived by the end of my 5 doses 😭

The Girl was on steroids for an allergic reaction to penicillin (2nd visit to A&E for the same thing, so they gave her the Good Stuff™ ). She was pretty much unconscious for 48 hours.

Depending on the steroids, wait until the Insatiable Hunger kicks in (currently on week 3 of hydrocortisol)

Not enough steroids. My first time on steroids for medical issues I slept 4hrs a night until I begged for sleeping pills. Then I slept 6 hours. 😂

Steroids made me physically incapable of sleeping but I also felt like I could fight a bear, so it was ok

My cat is on a daily steroid for IBD and she says not to stray too far from your litterbox.

Sounds about right actually.

Happens that way for some people. But naps are good, so no complaints.

Whenever I've taken steroids I get really hangry and eat everything in sight.

I always find that not being hyper/manic and cleaning the house at 3am usually correlates with how fucked up my body is... Past acute use linked to bad chest infections w asthma - manic. Ongoing use linked to biologic not working on my various autoimmune - my chronic fatigue has fatigue...🥱

Rage usually hits me a day or two in, along with intense hunger usually for red meat.

My husband said living with me when I was on steroids was what he imagined it was like to live with a coke addict. I was too debilitated to have much activity but I cleaned the hell out of my desk drawers and linen closet.

Genuinely hope your experience is easier than mine over the winter with a torn bicep. Not fun.

Diagnosed w/Crohn’s as a kid & have had many a round of them over the decades. I thought they didn’t have much of an effect on me but my late wife always said she hated when I was on them. Fun times! Enjoy the naps! They would turbocharge my insomnia.

I had a different experience with steroids: within 24 hours I gained thirty pounds, wrote a 120-page feature screenplay and attempted to instigate a fist fight at a beer festival.

The weird hyper realistic dreams may set in after a week or so.

My cat Rebel was very sick & has to take prednisone daily now. She's very happy again, but quite hungry, and has gained a bunch of weight, so she's a bit tubby :)))

My understanding from my RN sister while she was on strong steriods is that steroids allow you to understand your cats when they speak to you. One of her household cats went into her room & asked her, in English, "Are you okay?" The cat then jumped on her bed and rested her paw on her chest. Bonus

Omigosh naps on steroids? More like, Ok, I'm done deep cleaning my house, can I clean yours now? Who's house is next after that? I have all night and day available.

Steroids didn’t make me wanna do anything or make me feel any better but my back was really fucked up and I needed lots of PT and probably still a surgery the steroids were just the workman’s comp insurance company trying to get out of things as cheaply as possible.

Not always. There are cases where some people have the reverse reaction to certain meds. For example, I take Tylenol 3, with codeine for my migraines, and in knocks me out. I have a coworker who is ND and the same meds makes him hyper and agitated.

Kept me awake and power cleaning at 2am 🤷‍♀️ Might take a day or two if you’ve been very sick to feel the effects though. Or you’re lucky and get to sleep well!

Dosage is everything. I had exercise-induced asthma, a common ailment among athletes competing at higher altitudes. What the doctor prescribed for me was a powder I breathed in. It was a steroid. Apparently not enough to give me Schwarzenegger physique; I remained a skinny cyclist.

I hope you don’t get the steroid angries for they are real and no fun at all. If you can sleep through it, that’s much better.

Give it time . . . . It usually takes until day 3 or 4 before the insomnia and rage set in for me. (But seriously, I hope the treatment works for you and your side effects are mild!)

I don't know why you're taking steroids, but wow, that's a different reaction from me. When I've been on prednisone, I have the energy of a teenager. It's THE BEST except for the whole "long term use is really bad for you" problem.

Prednisone increased my appetite, as well as my rage. I don’t recommend if if you have a choice.

Read the side effects. I get that last one, “unexplained moments of extreme happiness.”

Yep, Prednisone does that. I had a stronger one called Dexamethasone for very bad bronchitis once. That one was insane. Everything tasted like copper, my bones ached, and I felt like I was ready to fight God. Incredible, considering I was getting my ass kicked by flat walking before I started it.
