Almost any movie about space travel—in particular, a spaceship in orbit that runs out of fuel does not immediately “fall out of orbit.” Orbits are stable trajectories! That‘s the whole point! Without station-keeping maneuvers, it’ll eventually decay due to drag, but that’ll be a VERY long time.

Treatment of diabetes (con air) where diabetic having a hypo, a low blood sugar incident is “saved” by insulin. A hypo needs to be treated with fast sugar - giving insulin would make it dangerously worse! But I guess swigging a full sugar coke or chomping on jelly babies doesn’t look so dramatic

In a movie that laughed in the face of every kind of science, the one that annoyed me in Pacific Rim was the scientist saying Kaiju had two brains, like a dinosaur. Firstly, that's not true, secondly, there is no way that character wasn't the annoying dinosaur kid who constantly told people this.

I think doing the opposite would take a lot less time.

Depictions of musicians that don’t even bother to try to imitate the real thing. There’s a (mediocre) action movie called “Eagle Eye” that hinges on a high school band’s performance. Cringe all the way — as if the instruments hadn’t existed before filming started, and no one knows how they work.

The grave-digging scene ( as in Supernatural) which happens quickly & then the grave is perfectly rectangular with no pile of dirt in sight. The diggers are clean & untired.

As a former (veterinary, but trained in human hospitals) anaesthetist, what really gets me in any fiction is the 'aggressor steps up behind victim with pad of *magic - and non-existent - anaesthetic*, slaps it over their face and victim falls unconscious in one breath while aggressor is just fine*

Pretty much everything set in a school. Teaching is never anything but lecture. The topic is always something relevant to the plot, no matter the course. And the teachers never know the bell is coming, so they're always yelling tonight's assignment as the class departs--never writing on the board.

Underwater scenes, especially action scenes. Just casually hanging out for several minutes underwater doing things that require a great deal of both exertion and precision without any light source. The underwater bar fight in Top Secret is not noticeably less realistic than most underwater scenes.

It's a reasonably common thing in historical or fantasy setting to show a fanfare played on straight horns that excruciatingly obviously was played on trumpets. This is like looking at a harp and hearing a piano.

This is behavioral, more than anything else, but it really bugs me: People screaming and running away when finding a dead body. Happens in cop shows a *ton.* I think I'd cry, or throw up. Or cry and throw up, but there's nothing 'scary' about a dead body. There's something incredibly sad about it.

Portraying survival from a major incident as 'the end' of the struggle. Protagonist may get a new scar, but they usually end up fully-abled and healthy by closing credits. They don't spend years in physio, or have complications from blood thinners & weight gain after crushing their foot.

There's a trope in comics where every female character is described as having the agility of an olympic-level gymnast, with or without powers. Being an olympic-level gymnast has intense training, diet, and body shape implications. You can't just staple DD breasts onto a gymnast and say go forth.

I feel like I'm blessed with an abundance of willingness to suspend disbelief. I consider my self scientifically and musically literate, but not cursed with knowledge that would take me out of losing myself in a movie or TV show.

Isn't there significant crossover in knowledge between chemists and biologists? Medical students come from both disciplines and I'd expect one who has earned a Biology Ph.D. to have a well-rounded foundation in all of the sciences, being capable of solving some chemistry problems.

To be fair, sometimes we with degrees in molecular biology DO have to solve chemistry or physics problems 😅
