im begging you once again to please decouple "evil" from "mentally ill." every time you label an evil man mentally ill you throw the most vulnerable people under a bus. we are not more likely to be prone to violence. in fact, we are more likely to be victims of abuse. please remember that.

Years ago, I was chatting with one of my education profs and we got to talking about comics and I said I felt the disparaging of comics is silly. She responded: Okay, But we need to get students to read real books. Makes me think of "real" food. But what is "real" and who gets to define it?

Disabled and chronically ill people don't suffer in silence because we're saints. We keep quiet because when we do speak we are often: Dismissed Lectured Bombarded with unsolicited advice that ranges from comically naive to actively harmful. Put at risk by those who perceive us as "easy marks."

Comic books teach visual literacy! The ability to decode text and images together is a valuable skill. Also, if you actually want a child to be a reader, don't disparage their choice of reading material.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but... comics, as a medium, is not "easier to read" than prose, and acting like children who prefer comics to prose books are dumbasses is a manifestation of the worst kind of Puritan-work-ethic authoritarianism
