Yes. It’s why I’m focusing my activism on the personal side. Not because holding big corp’s to account isn’t important, but bc I feel like there are plenty of people tackling that & not enough encouraging others to get a heat pump & induction stove, eat vegan, etc

I feel like there’s a decent number of climate activists who resist individual action, arguing the *real* emitters are big companies, and thus we *must* focus our energies on curtailing those emissions. I hear very little from activists about the role of demand destruction, so thx for this article

Yes, I think the interoffice romance(s) was a mistake. And after a while it felt like it took itself too seriously. But I generally liked the characters and thought some of the takes on various issues were quite smart.

And Silo has new episodes coming out right now! And Ted Lasso S4 comes out August 3! And Slow Horses S6 comes out in September! So lots of great new stuff coming even if you’ve seen all the previous seasons.

Such a good thread. I decided several yrs ago that if a friend asked me for money for a charitable cause or GoFundMe that they were supporting, I’d donate. There’s a feeling of “I can’t support everyone” but really, you don’t have that many friends fundraising. You can absolutely support them all.

Will be interesting to see if this incentivizes car co’s to make more vehicles with bidirectional charging capability. GM has a line of such cars, and there’s the popular Hyundai Ioniq, but otherwise it’s hard to find in the US.

Part of my struggle in choosing is that I’d like to see several of those headlines much sooner than 10 years. I don’t think we have that long to make some of those changes

I got accused of plagiarism for using the British spelling of sulfur in a chemistry paper. How was I supposed to know which spelling to use? I’m not even sure I knew there were different spellings at that time of my life. It was scary and demoralizing

Depictions of the American military. How hard is it to teach actors to salute correctly? And then there’s Major General Kay in Stranger Things, who shoves a soldier & squeezes his face, in order to … make her point? The military = "bad/crazy guy who is free is ignore all laws" trope is tiresome

OTOH, given the existential challenges we face, getting UBI asap is more important than getting it “right.” If the movement thinks this is the fastest way to get there, then it may be the best way to go. No easy answers!
