it reminds me of the first horror-video I saw of chatbot-assisted abuse. a divorcing lesbian couple were in a car, kids in the back. the non-driving partner has chatGPT on speakerphone & she is enumerating her partner's failings as chatgpt agrees & psychoanalyzes her as manipulative, selfish etc.

the wrongful death lawsuit filing against Open AI is a shocking read. ChatGPT 4 told this lovely 29-year-old mother & CPA that she was a prophet, that no one but the chatbot understood her & that she should essentially die to be resurrected into her higher form. it's a brutal brainwashing.

Like, a news story on one of those cold case arrests from genetic genealogy that intersperse 10-second clips of a grateful/heartbroken relative with "a brutal slaying, 30 years, and a discarded fork!" framing and you have to actually google the story for the facts because it's all teaser.

maybe it's not entirely a new thing, but it's now strikingly prevalent, and that is news stories that are entirely uninformative. very much in local tv news but also I just read a huge national print paper's article. I'm talking there's no who what where how and why. I'm talking facts in a blender.

just for anyone who reads this: the story is very unclearly written. other outlets reporting is this was a murder-suicide. ms golding was found in her Astoria home, dead from a stabbing, and later that day her husband was found dead in Astoria Park.
