My hot take is that Lindsey Graham did many contemptible things but if you’re furious that his Senate Democratic colleagues are posting nice things about him today you need to put down your phone, get some fresh air, and remember a time when a colleague you disliked departed this mortal coil.

Lindsey Graham was an evil warmonger responsible for millions of destroyed lives. You sound like someone saying “ppl celebrating Hitler’s death” need to get fresh air. Coward!

something is wrong with you.

Touching grass and immediately thinking how many people won't get to do that again because of that evil elf

Also it turns out that the Civil War was about not owning people as property and it was probably good to burn those shitheads to the ground and we didn't salt the earth deep enough cause here we are again around 150 years later???

Daniel seems to be okay with that as long as we're nice to the people he likes.

Unfortunately, there’s a portion of older Gen x who decided to become Boomers and they are very confused. We don’t do that polite Boomer politics bullshit anymore.

I assure you Mr Drezner did not “like” LG in this kind of childish manner.

Take some solace in the fact that he will not get to either.

"My hot take is that Lindsey Graham did many contemptible things but" let me stop you there. Sounds like YOU need to get some fresh air

Ответ для Dan Williams 🌮

And a better sense of proportion. "Yeah, he did all this terrible stuff, but -- " Oh, he dressed nice, and he combed his hair nice, and he had a nice smile, AND HE DID ALL THIS TERRIBLE STUFF. Good riddance to bad rubbish! We're well-rid of that vile creature!

Ok, now pretend your colleague is Goebbels.

Ответ для Lisa Koch

I've seen the way these losers post, they'd be jumping for joy at the opportunity to collude with an anti communist

I don’t give a fuck about comity and collegiality, we are fighting an existential war and our front line warriors are sucking the dicks of fascist ghosts

lot of real estate between "colleague you disliked" and "fascist with the blood of men and country on his hands"

My most disliked colleague saved every file he worked on over a 30 year career as like pdf, pdf(1), pdf(2), etc which was annoying when he retired but pales in comparison to the ghoulish work of someone like Graham so no, you don’t have to hand it to him. Being honest is good actually. Rest in piss.

If my coworkers were violent fascist monsters who wanted me dead, i would either get another job, or at least not give two fucks when that neo-confederates, racist war-monger died. But sure, keep acting like you're morally superior for white washing the life long immoral life he lead.

Civility with fascists is the whole reason we are in this mess.

I suggest you compare him to the average person's disliked colleague. I think you'll find a massive difference in how much their actions have hurt others. It's not like he was just some person who got on everyone's nerves.

In this hypothetical, did my colleague conspire with the head of another state to start a war and kill thousands of innocent people because he was a racist?

A colleague I had disliked died and I simply said nothing. Maybe I said something like, "thank you for letting me know" to whoever gave the news, but that's it.

“don’t speak ill of the dead” is supposed to be for your aunt that had a drinking problem, not literal fascists

there is nothing nice to say about a genocidal fascist

What?

Your bozo take

An oncologist so notorious for inflicting treatment on terminally ill patients “until last living cell” the med school no longer let him teach trainees abruptly kicked it. That night heme/onc docs, nurses, & we consultants swapped stories of his remorseless harm and shared rounds of drinks. Salud!

Can't patients refuse? I would. (Cancer patient, in remission but also in watchful waiting for the relapse).

Ответ для Observer

Yes, patients can decide whether or not to accept more treatment. Yet those decisions are informed by the treating clinician(s). When a clinician holds out false hope, patients will understandably embrace it.

They ought to post nothing

Ответ для DJC

No. Not only is it allowed, it’s praxis. bsky.app/profile/wtfi...

Dr. Ruth Marshall is still kicking against the pricks

Reminder: you are allowed to talk shit about the dead when they’re being lamented and eulogized by their buddy the war criminal nazi sociopath.

This may be the dummest thing I hear today. Holy shit…

My colleague once stiffed me on a bar tab on a Friday roll call. Lindsey Graham tried to overthrow the United States government. Who's to say which one is worse.

"a colleague you disliked" he was a war mongering fascist

This is disgusting whitewashing of a deeply evil person and it means you must like some of the evil he did, nazi scum

Ответ для Plover Oatt

Ah, apparently you are actually a fan of the modern heirs of the nazis

Colleagues I didn't like didn't directly contribute to the deaths of millions of people around the globe, so there's that.

To my knowledge, I've never had a colleague who was a murderer or accessory to murder, profited from their crimes, never faced real repercussions, and continued to threaten the lives of millions of people until death stopped them because no one else would.

I haven't gotten so lucky as to see the bosses that got me permanently disabled on the job and then used state laws and exemptions to fire me and get out of paying me workman's comp die yet but I assure you I will party like it's 1999 when it happens because just like Graham they deserve worse.

I have had colleagues that I've disliked, but never a colleague that dedicated their entire life to spreading pain and misery both to my friends here and to innocent people abroad. However, if I did have one of those I would openly talk shit about them both to their face and on their grave

Ответ для Creighton ⚒️

Agreed, but would you do it within a few minutes of hearing they died? I think there’s a gut instinct to pacify death with decorum and ritual.

Ответ для IntrepidGirlSleuth

My gut instinct was to whoop with joy

Ответ для Eric Daniels

Hah! Fair enough. Just saying it may be different for people who were in an elevator with him 18 hours ago.

Ответ для IntrepidGirlSleuth

Not that it’s correct—just that it’s not a mystery, the knee-jerk praise of graham.

Ответ для IntrepidGirlSleuth

I don’t have this “gut instinct.” Because it isn’t one. What you’re describing is a socialized phenomenon, not an inherent one.

Ответ для Infosecsie (ツンデレ)

Ответ для IntrepidGirlSleuth

Yup. I definitely would.

Ответ для Bob ArdKor

Actually scratch that. Why would I wait whole *minutes* to do so? That would be instant.

Ответ для Bob ArdKor

I bow to your greater clarity in the moment.

People dislike their co-workers because they, like, talk about Pokémon too much or whatever. People dislike Lindsay Graham because he helped Trump dismantle abortion rights and do war crimes in Iran. If the worst thing Graham did was microwave fish in America's microwave, you might have a point.

Suck my asshole

As far as I’m aware my worst colleagues have not contributed to tens or hundreds of thousands of people’s deaths. But that’s just me.

Nah, actually I will continue to judge every bitch-ass liberal and "moderate Democrat" who wants to play nice with the child rapist death cult that thinks my loved ones and I deserve to be murdered, thank you very much 🖕

If we aren't allowed to call evil by its name, you're just running cover for and laundering the reputations of clearly evil people. Fuck that. The only respite we get when one of these ghouls dies is the satisfaction of dancing and pissing on their graves. No one's gonna take that from us.

I think a case can be made for saying nothing in the moment. Down the road, well...consider perennial whitewashing of terrible politicians that happens some time after their deaths (Reagan, Dubya, Nixon). That's yet to happen with Graham, and when (not if) it does, we can deal with it.

That's just a stupid take. Not hot

Planet is in ruins and you post treacle. Your hot take is trash.

Eh, I think there’s a difference between the professional respect due a departed colleague and what we’re seeing some folks do. If a colleague I disliked passed, I would definitely respectfully express my condolences. But I wouldn’t be running around loudly insisting what a joy he was to work with.

Ответ для Sericite

If you would eulogize a nazi colleague, you are also a nazi.

As linhardt from fire emblem three houses says:

You might wanna sit your phone down and get some fresh air before you defame your colleagues much more, Daniel. Comparing them to Lindsey Graham? smh

None of my colleagues vociferously defended bigotry or voted to dismantle democracy.

Anyone who isn't saying "RIP bozo" isn't worth a damn.

If you can’t call out evil shitheels when they are in fact evil then that sez more about them then any moral high ground yer trying to take.

Laughed then, laughing now. What was your point?

If my worst colleague had started a war and made marginalized people's lives actively worse, I would absolutely shit talk him and expect others to also shit talk him. Fuck your appeasement politics

My colleagues, whether I like them or not, do not have the power to destroy lives.

Motherfucker my job isn't "deciding who gets to live their lives and who gets to be immiserated to death while I do insider trading". If it was, I wouldn't reapect myself, let alone my coworkers.

Lindsay was a bloodthirsty warmonger and a pedophile protector. GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!! AND FUCK HIS DEMOCRATIC FRIENDS TOO.

They didn't dislike him and that is the problem.

It's bad for senate democrats to post things about the evil person who they clearly care more about than their constituents. Graham was not some guy who wasn't fun to work an actual job with, he was a fascist hog who never did anything of use and frequently did great harm to countless lives.

Celebrating the deaths of evil people is energizing, and creates community and esprit de corps. Don’t be so fastidious about keeping company with genuine antifascists. Next thing you know you’ll have a column in the NYT chastising our excesses.

They can post their nice comments on x.

you have been a professor too long. get out of your classroom and into the world.

really stupid thing to say and to believe

it's not a good take tho

“a colleague you disliked”

If by hot take you mean the most bog standard pandering bullshit imaginable, sure.

None of my shitty coworkers have caused the deaths of millions

Maybe it’s time for you to realize that being a senator is a different kind of job. I never had a colleague who actively helped masked federal agents murder people in the street

None of my colleagues were career scumbags enabling a lunatic to use the US military to murder people though Daniel.

Yeah…my colleagues didn’t get countless people killed in needless wars. So, maybe Dems should put those well wishes in their drafts. He was a ghoul by choice.

There's still time to delete this.

My colleagues fuck up spreadsheets. They weren’t one of the key architects of the dismantling of our democracy. Maybe you’re the one who’s out of touch? Just a thought.

So what unforgivable thing have you done that makes you empathize with a monsters who’s rightfully having his grave danced on? That’s the only reason I can imagine you’d defend this creep unless you actually just agreed with his horrible policies.

You could have just shut the fuck up, but I see you strive to go above and beyond.

No colleague I’ve ever had, no matter how much I disliked them, had a big hand in ruining my country.

T

Dude, you realize that if dems ever get real power, we are beyond policy differences.... we want investigations and hangings of traitors. The current gop and centrist dems have betrayed the constitution and country. Not since the Lithuanian partition has humanity seen such betrayal.

This is actually dumber than all those dumb senate tweets.

Pretty sure we popped a bottle last time.

They are pathetic weaklings unfit to represent Democratic Party voters and every single childish dumbass in Congress who said nice things about a man who wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire should be primaried.

One can have sympathy for Lindsey Graham’s family, who loved him, without ignoring the fact that he was an amoral, dishonest scumbag who licked the boots of America’s Hitler.

🎯 When Republicans turn us into "as bad as they are", they have won.

Ответ для cdpositive

We aren't "as bad as they are" by refusing to kiss their asses when they die. They are monsters. They actively harm people. The Democrats fondly eulogizing Graham isn't taking the high road. It's groveling.

Ответ для Tell Tale Raven

"goveling" to who? A dead man? Your acting like a Republican.... 34-felon has turned cruelty & hate into a asset & your replicating it. What does that make you? bsky.app/profile/cdpo...

Nothing is gained by being as disgusting as Republicans. They have won if we treat death as cheaply as they do.

A good addition, my summary would be - if Graham had any true ideals beyond staying in power, he didn't show it. Despite serving for 32 years in Congress, he authored no trademark legislation.

Ответ для Coffee Indiana

It's easy to customize the words "trademark legislation" but I would suggest anyone reading those words should know it's like saying, "That tree never produced the perfect apple." and they should do a search for themselves. I'm not going to list them all here.

Ответ для cdpositive

If you think 22 out of 774 is a good thing, cool. Let's add it to the record - "loved killing the right people, hated LGBTQ, thought women had a specific role in society and in 3 decades had 22 out of 774 sponsored bills get enacted"

Lol they are the same but "being rude" isn't the worst similarity

The Democrats in office who vote for right-wing legislation, launder their colleagues neo-Nazi beliefs through friendly statements such as we're seeing today, and confirm wildly unqualified bigots to Trump Cabinet positions are the ones who are "as bad as they are"

Ответ для cdpositive

I don’t want to be as bad as republicans. I fully understand the importance of optics and the decorum expected of a sitting senator when a colleague dies. But what Schiff (and I’m sure others) did is insulting to his supporters AND to the country. He can be polite and respectful without lying.

Ответ для Angela

The 🧵from Schiff is what I read. If something was a lie, please point it out. I'll also include a piece in the next post written by @anneapplebaum.wsocial.eu which seems to catalog LG's history (before 34-felon) and coincides with the posts by Adam Schiff. bsky.app/profile/schi...

if my colleagues were directly responsible for the suffering of millions i would be cheering when they departed their mortal coil too this isn't just a regular job it's people like him who have directly lead to the deaths of millions

1) he wants to shut down our dissent 2) he's smugly proud of doing this while feeling he lords over us not just in power but also in morality

congrats on being a go-with-the-flow german as the nazis rose in the 30s

It’s very easy to say ‘condolences to the family’ without going on about what a great guy he was.

Imagine thinking that it's just about "dislike". Only people who thinks the lives he destroyed and the ones he tried to destroy don't really matter could say this. He wasn't an athlete on a rival sports team. The response of people is not about mere "dislike".

Yeah, good point. One of the many problems with voters is making politics like sports. Graham was not part of the "loyal opposition" of yore. He was part of a ChristoFascist movement that is trying to end representative Democracy.

You don't actually have to defend them or scold the masses for using their first amendment rights.

But the important part is not that he was their fucking colleague, it’s what he did with his obscene power. I would hope someone with any academic ethics at all would acknowledge that

This goes for you, too bsky.app/profile/the1...

Ответ для 🧿kika🧿

Graham wasn't even fucking "agreeable" he was a contentious slimy lil Epstein Class fetishist with the unfortunate southern baptist drawl that made people mistake him for a closeted f*g... If the extra layer of bigotry & oppression hadn't been there the callBoys would have been girls....🤷‍♀️

Ответ для KittyBatSasha

it...wasn't the drawl? (i have numerous southern gay relatives whose voices are *much* sassier than graham's was - i know what a southern gay man sounds like.) rather, it was *everything else* about the guy that made people think he was in the closet

Ответ для turnerator

If the last decade has shown us anything it's that the bigoted asshats crashing grindr at GOP conventions aren't even actually "closeted gays" they're JUST FETISHISTS..... They are the epitome of "every conservative accusation is a CONFESSION" they get off on things their community deems "taboo"

Ответ для KittyBatSasha

There are a million better ways to insult or criticize Graham than calling him closeted. C'mon.

Ответ для 🧿kika🧿

I very distinctly noted that he MISTAKEN for a closeted gay.... Him and otger "DL" bigots aren't even gay... They're JUST FETISHISTS... If the Bigotry and oppression weren't there they'd be some other flavor of Epstein Class.

I dislike grape jelly. Lindsey Graham is a dead piece of shit.

I don't work with pieces of shit. Sorry.

I never had colleagues who were responsible for the deaths of innocent people around the world tho.

this would make sense if they were posting on their personal social media, but they are posting on the feeds they use to communicate and dictate to us, our constituents, who absolutely do not want to hear about their gooey feelings for a war criminal who wanted us to suffer and die

If I was colleagues with Lindsey Graham, there's no way I would post anything remotely conciliatory toward him after his passing. To do so would be a slap in the face and a dishonoring of all those whose lives he destroyed directly or indirectly by being a colossal piece of shit bigot and war monger

I think personal loss and politics have vastly different consequences and should be governed by different rules.

I don't fucking think so, asshole. Watching dems eulogize this pos as a friend, patriot, and a good man, slams home why we're all still living through this dystopian shitshow; centrists are not on our side.

Nah, get fucked.

only dems are stupid enough to rush to call genocidal demons "friends" when all they had to do was shut the fuck up

I was just outside doing yard with plenty of fresh air and….yeah, Fuck him still.

You will defend people posting pro trump stuff when he dies because there is no argument for supporting it when it's Lindsey Graham that doesn't also apply to Trump.

hall monitor ass posting grow up dude

He helped kill people. Get outside and touch grass, you seem to have forgotten what each of those is worth

Daniel, I respectfully disagree. Have a good one.

I didn’t go on social media to say nice things about them

The last time a colleague I disliked died I and most of the colleagues I did like did not stop to give sympathy. I think it’s very strange that you, a person with “political science professor” in their bio, seem to hugely misunderstand the level of sympathy most Americans have for people they hate.

Better Things Are Possible

Mainstream Respectable opinion is that people joking about a bad person's death represents a culture of cruelty, but really it represents a culture of impunity. It's a coping mechanism for watching someone do evil their whole life and never seeing consequences

Ok 👍

Hot take genius. None of the colleagues I disliked were directly responsible for suffering and death throughout the world, including the people to which they swore an oath.

If all he did was put fish in the office microwave, you might have a point.

if my colleague pisses me off, i might have to redo a powerpoint. lindsey graham is responsible for millions of death and the rise of fascism. not really the same!
