Same in reverse, and I lived in Europe for five years. Celsius just doesn't compute *except* for 14 C, because it was 14 C for a week once while I was living in Stuttgart and somehow that imprinted viscerally even when no other temperature ever did.

So much sympathy. I’ve been living in the UK for 9 yrs and have the reverse issue. My kids only understand Celsius- I apparently only know how to dress them and me in Fahrenheit.

Ok like this is relatable and embarrassingly Celsius sometimes is off to me now from being rusty So far i know 90s is hot 100+ is hot hot and mid 80s is “you don’t think it’s hot but it’s hot” While mid 70s and below is sadmaking cold

I'm American and I guesstimated 72F is 23C. It's 22.2C. You can do it, I believe in you.

We mostly used F here (UK) when I was a kid. I eventually got to grips with C, though it took me a while. Now I only think in degrees C, and can’t begin to get my head around F!

I havevthe opposite problem being raised here & having friends & family in the real world. I can do (Cx9/5)+32 & (F-32)x5/9 in my head though. I also do P÷2.2 & Kgx32, and Mi x 10/6 & Km x 10/6 in my head. Just so I can talk to people. Keeps me sharp maybe? I feel a little dull.

If you can memorise that 20 is 68 and 30 is 86 you've got a solid base for a lot of normal temperatures. Also 10 is 50 which can be easy to remember too.

I am the 100% opposite. Also need to look up equivalent for every ingredient that is in milliliters or grams

I have the advantage of growing up in a country where they used both in my formative years so I can do a ‘that’s about x’ when asked. I get asked everyday because despite living here for 20 years my better half grew up in RSA and has never used F and doesn’t get it.

So for “will i want a sweater or shorts?” the C goes by 5s and the F by scant 10s: 5C - 40F, 10C - 50F, 15C - 60F (Sweater). 20C - not quite 70F, 25C - almost 80F (neither). Over 25C / 80F, definitely shorts. Over 30C, air conditioning.

F is good for living, (the others have their uses), 0 is about as cold as you want it to get, 100 is about as hot as you want it to get, 30's cold, 50's cool, 70's warm 90's hot....

I am in the UK, I feel like I began switching from F to C the same kind of time that petrol started to be sold in litres not gallons.

Everyday weather is the one point where I think F is just inherently better than C. Today is in the 70s, 60s, 80s, 90s, means something in a way that 22 vs. 26 just doesn't.

I’ve managed (through timing of birth and migration) to have a brain that does “warm” in F and “cold” in C 🫤

I lived in Australia for long enough that both have settled into my brain even years later in California, but if I remember water freezes at zero, that I'm comfortable outside in a t-shirt when it's in the 20s, and it's too hot in the 30s, that my body temp is 37, I can internalize Celsius.

Winter overseas, my apartment was often 16C because I couldn’t process the conversion and thought I was just being whiny. Another friend kept hers at 27C and didn’t understand why her bills were so high.

I started recording the temperature in both measurements in my journal each morning. I’m hoping in a few short decades it will be intuitive.

the only celsius temperature i truly know is body temp so i can at least tell you how hot something is compared to that. sort of.

I've developed incommensurate scales where my memories of home are all calibrated in C, my memories here are in F, and I can never translate what felt hot/cold from one scale into another.

I used do both weight & temperature in Imperial. Then I married someone from Shanghai now I only do them in Metric. The change can be made.

As a native F-er, I just memorized the 10s C in Celsius (14, 32, 50, 68, 86, 104). The 5s are 9 off, easy to ballpark the rest. And then there's the magic of forty below

NOT A DEFENSE OF FREEDOM UNITS: C was created by lazy scientists who wanted to do math by counting on fingers. It 100% ignores the human condition. If the difference in temperature in your house from happy partner to divorce has to be measured by a decimal point your system sucks for real humans.

Same, in reverse 😂 If my phone had actual AI it would just sigh and supply the temperature conversion in Fahrenheit every so often while I’m playing The Long Dark (a post apocalyptic survival game set in the Canadian north in the winter)

This is me & Celsius. I grew up using Fahrenheit but now am trying to get Celsius to be my default. I changed the display on all my devices, but even after years, I’m still searching ‘25c to f’ in my browser on a regular basis. (I have mostly sorted out the 16-21c range, so, progress?)

Reminds me of being 7, when I was on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls and I saw it was 23° on a digital thermometer in June. I asked mom why it wasn't cold😂

I have the same problem in reverse when I travel.

Someone will jump in here to explain to you that Fahrenheit more intuitively covers the range of temperatures that humans experience. But I'm with you. It just doesn't register as real information.

The only thing I know about C is that anything over 35 is too hot. And I lived in a place where it was 45 C for half of the year.

72F is perfect weather. Opan the windows! Go outside and play! 0F is so cold it hurts, 100F is so hot it hurts.

As an American with friends in the UK, I've just gotten into the habit that when I talk about the temperature, I post it in Fahrenheit, and then Celsius. Over time, I've gotten to where they are both embedded in my head.

72°F is lovely. 82°F can be OK, if thr humidity cooperates. 92°F I'm not coming to your BBQ unless you have a climate-controlled sunroom where I can eat. 102°F I'm not leaving the house unless I need to.

F is a much better measure for weather - 0-100 is roughly the range humans can live in C is better for pretty much everything else

F makes a sort of sense if you consider 0 to be too cold even in winter gear, and 100 is too hot even when naked and in the shade. I, personally prefer Kelvin. 300 is a lovely day.

If it goes over 90°, life sucks. That’s pretty much all you need to know. Oh, and 72° is the perfect a/c temperature.

-40F is also -40C - it's where they cross over. So in the Antarctic (for now) you sometimes don't have to specify...

I do the same thing but in the opposite direction.

Noted a while back that I can't grasp F for cold and can't really grasp (weather) hot in C. Not sure where the switch occurs, probably in the it's quite nice out range. Frosty at 0°C, bit too hot out at 90°F+

I can do F scale, or I can do C in its own terms, but I can’t switch between them. Like I know 40C is freaking hot but I can’t tell you what it is in F.

100 = hot 75 = warmish 50 = middle 25 = cold 0 = real cold

I started using Celsius in high school, so I've gotten very good at translating it into Fahrenheit for my US friends who look at my Celsius-set thermometers.
