Obviously, I think the world of Whitehead. I just hope he goes back to goofy novels like *John Henry Days*.

Everyday weather is the one point where I think F is just inherently better than C. Today is in the 70s, 60s, 80s, 90s, means something in a way that 22 vs. 26 just doesn't.

I dunno. Whitehead's work before this trilogy was so constantly inventive. I've found the trilogy fine but sort of dull. *Cool Machine* is next on my to-read list, so I can't judge, but this recent work just seems like a step back. Give us more Intuitionists!

I've been doing this for decades. My routine is to get up before everyone and read until noonish, when everyone else is up and I get swept into other activities. The calm of being on the beach when most people are still sleeping is great.

In Virginia Beach for a family vacation, and googled to see if we could find music for after dinner. Just someone playing covers or such while we had a drink. Discovered Wilco is playing two blocks away tonight. We must have rescued a Genie or something.

This is amazing. So glad you shared it. My wife quilts, using a similar hand technique, and the way this project connects to the sense of slow time really touched her.

I know, it's shocking, but you can just teach classes where you read books, talk about stuff, and then write (in class, alas) about them. Works fine. Students find it refreshing.

As you imply, the problem is network effects. If publishers have to sift through 40x more ms., it's more likely good stuff falls through the cracks. Likewise, people who use AI for email replies are just producing more junk that no one is actually going to read, but use AI to respond to.

My wife's birthday was Wednesday, and we've been joking that Thursday was 90% her birthday, etc. Today she's down to 70% her birthday. Neither of us have any idea what that means. She gets to call the shots, but just not so much?

Found a dog wondering around the neighborhood, wrangled him, found his tag, called his owner and gave him water and pets while we kept him contained until the owner could pick him up. Good deed for the day achieved. Now we can be terrible people the rest of the day.

I am beloved by dogs and children. Adults, not so much.

Used to read/listen to Klein all the time, but haven't done so since his Kirk "politics the right way" piece. Talk about someone who lost his way.

Can't comment on what seems like a great situation for you, but one of the really nice things about academic life is that you can kind of do a few valedictory years. Beloved soon-retiring faculty member, teaching the last few classes but mostly skipping department meetings. Seems nice.
