I used to hear things like “now that I have a kid, I can understand why…” followed by some form of “people deserve to be treated kindly” and I would roll my eyes at the lack of empathy without personal experience. Turns out there’s much worse: rejection of empathy even with personal experience.

This was one of the most fantastic YouTube videos I've ever seen. YouTube and Nebula have practically replaced the TV in my house, but the sheer mastery of documentary filmmaking on display here is unparalleled. Is there some rule that prevents this from being recognized by AMPAS?

The tone at the end about how we’re all geographically lucky that it isn’t our kids, that it isn’t us… I don’t understand why more people don’t see things this way. It would be abhorrent to happen to us, and therefore it is abhorrent to happen to anyone.

Great video. I wanna chime in with a side thing: The conservative child show with the women and dog made me unreasonable angry. I felt personally insulted by her wording and attitude, it felt she, the show, was just annoyed, that she would like to slap whoever is sitting in front of the screen.

It's really cathartic hearing about your experience as a new parent in tandem with what's happening. I've got 2 young ones as well. Seeing kids their age grievously injured or dead just consumes me. I'm doing what I can, feeling like it's not enough, and always wishing I could do more.
