If I had money I would buy some right now but alas, Ropecon was detrimental to my wallet. I did sell 100€ worth of stuff there, but the money from that hasn't been exchanged to my account yet so I have to breadless

Oh did a female academic with an extensive history of study and practice in a particular area of literature make a reasoned critique of a male filmmaker’s movie? I’m sure this will be handled with maximum normality.

Even with that aforementioned experience, I think Worlds was the only time I was at big tournament where I did not only feel like I belonged but that others treated me like that too. Weird how most of my feelings like that come out when I'm not in my home country.

I have a friend who also frequently travels to other cities (and countries) for her hobby, and we often talk about our different experiences. She plays roller derby, so her stories are about feelings of belonging and flirting with sports lesbians. I wish my experiences were as fun to tell.

Only time I have done that was at the AOS Worlds, when I was already feeling somewhat pissed and something just snapped and I just said "no, it's ma'm, not sir" and the guy did apologize to me. Not without first ofc explaining how it's just a reflex for him and yeah sure whatever

I know people who can push back on this in real life, who can correct other people when misgendered. Not me though I freeze up immediately and say nothing because all I have is a lack of self-confidence mixed with non-insubstantial amount of self-loathing.
