Its quite hard to know what, exactly, will actually lose someone their licence if 59 points, driving while disqualified and no insurance doesn't. Its not juat dangerous - its clear contempt for the law. We should treat car crime like any other crime
Jon Owen"I'm getting fed up with getting pulled by you guys, so this one will result in a complaint," says the driver with 59 points on his licence. 59 points, and still driving, and he didn't go to prison. The system is broken. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Got caught by a very sophisticated publishing scam yesterday. Used an invite from a real festival, used the name of the real festival’s real organiser. Slightly odd TOV and opening question but people do use AI to write emails and some festival organisers are a bit inexperienced.
I'd like our politics and media to devote the same monomaniacal attention they give 'small boats' to the issues of pavement parking, red light running, dangerous driving, lack of good cycling and walking infrastructure, etc.
We've survived the entirety of human history without data centres. We can't survive more than a few days without clean drinking water.
The Navy has trailed intervening in the Channel before. James Heappey, the then Armed Forced Ministers, explained to the Defence Select Committee that they concluded it was "unviable" and any collisions would be "a breach of the saving life at sea convention" committees.parliament.uk/oralevidence...

Few people understand that the UK university system is in crisis, but even fewer realise that many of the people losing their jobs are amongst the best in their fields
Glen O'HaraSo it's farewell to the History subject area at the University of Hertfordshire, not the first nor the last to go. One of the best departments in the country, just extinguished like a snap of the fingers. Think of the waste. (1/2)
never thought short form video would be able to capture a type of humor i can only describe as “the far side-esque” but this comes close.
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
My daughter is STILL spending all her money on World Cup stickers. If anyone has Cristiano Ronaldo can you PLEASE send it to us and end this madness…
In "Commercial Determinants of Replication Infeasibility," @cassidywaldrip.bsky.social, @davidlazer.bsky.social, & I ask if fears of corporate control of computational social science have become true. The answer? Few papers that rely on tech firms can be replicated. journalqd.org/article/view/9661
important 🧵 on UK's ongoing (now more secretive) blatant breaches of copyright laws. Starmer already tried to change policy to give AI free reign over copyrighted materials without compensating creators (unsuccessfully). this time they're being far more sneaky about it.
Ed Newton-RexI've confirmed that the UK's new Sovereign AI Fund does no due diligence on whether AI companies use copyrighted work without permission before investing in them. It took me 3 Freedom of Information requests to find this out: 🧵 1/10
With a church fire in Leicester the racists are out and I'd like to note that most of the congregation of the church in question isn't white British, & the 'illegals in hotels' they're blaming for 'destroying heritage' have been some of the best volunteers at Leicester's oldest church for months now
The European Commission has not shown why Europe needs to triple data center capacity, nor how existing infrastructure is being used. Michelle Thorne, Aurora Gomez Delgado, Fieke Jansen and Rosi Leonard make the case for a moratorium.
