it's a tricky balance: feeding the critters brings joy AND cobnuts are delicious 😆 you can ramp up your chances by coppicing the hazel every 3-5yrs, then laying down young shoots, splicing into the branch then burying it (=new tree!). it'll go gangbusters and you'll be nut-bound soon enough 🤣

yes, exactly! they're also used for thatching in some areas, so it's all about deviation from core design for specific case uses. and (literally!) handed down through families as a tool+skill (rehandled as needed). so gloriously nerdy. and using them is a delight - like holding history's hand 🥰

i guess i should explain "bodger" too 😆 Bodgers were itinerant workers who'd travel btw woodlands carrying only their sharp edged tools. they'd make every other tool from the woods, either gifting to locals or leaving them to rot down. coppicing/bodging are ancient ethical crafts we need more of!

just discovered why my laptop is so slow. it's full. oops. checking storage reveals Microsoft Edge (which i have never used since i got this device) is now wasting 3.31GB with its enshittified slop that i can't uninstall. sure, it's not the only big app or file on here, but I DON'T WANT OR USE IT.
