Lover of trams, classical music, maths, tea and cats. Member of the cycling lobby. 🇮🇹 immigrant in 🇬🇧, dual national. Refugees are welcome, racists are not. Addicted to "Italian Effeminacy and Italian Nonsense" (i.e. opera, according to Jonathan Swift)

Sadly the great Italian conductor Bruno Campanella has died. A renowned Rossini and Donizetti interpreter, a DVD of a Cenerentola conducted by him in Houston was one of the recordings that made me fall in love with opera, I watched it a million times.

Ok, I'll do this. 1 like, 1 answer.

Remember when the response of the government to these people was to say how much they loved flags too?

Oxford Clarion

Leaders of flag-raising group Raise the Colours Oxfordshire placed trackers on highway workers’ cars to find out their home addresses, the High Court has heard. RTC then attempted to intimidate the highway staff into no longer removing flags by repeating their addresses to them.

I think that any discussion of "why aren't there more moderate centre-right people on Bluesky?" that doesn't include the fact that the centre right (in the UK and other countries) has largely capitulated to the far right, and consequently been hollowed out, is necessarily incomplete.

This is always true.

Political partisans annoy me: someone from Party X makes a good point about some issue with Party Y on which their own party is as bad if not worse, and I'd like to say "Are you aware what party you're in?" without sounding like I'm dismissing the real issue with party Y.

The way open racism is being normalised more and more is truly upsetting.

"There's a real thing going on in the composition of the staff...does that not have to be looked at as well?" Nick Robinson, on Today, discussing this news.sky.com/story/nhs-st...

Getting ads from the Bee Network about courses on how to ride bikes. What would be even better is if they actually got on with building the bike lanes.

I'd like our politics and media to devote the same monomaniacal attention they give 'small boats' to the issues of pavement parking, red light running, dangerous driving, lack of good cycling and walking infrastructure, etc.

Branca Doria was still alive and Dante put him in one of the deepest regions of hell.

Sir Almaviva

They say "De mortuis nil nisi bonum" but the first part of one of the greatest masterpieces of world literature consists essentially of Dante putting a bunch of people he didn't like — along with more widely known figures from history and mythology — in hell.

I got some books from the library and the librarian described one of them as "Franz Kafka meets Alice in Wonderland" so now I'm very much looking forward to reading it.

Anyone who follows me knows I'm a big fan of the Labour Party, especially their immigration policy. Sure thing.

I've been having this thought for a while

open all borders. stop having them be closed 🇺🇦🇱🇹🇵🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

There is no argument for limiting migration between countries that could not be contrived to be an argument for limiting migration between cities.
