It's pretty infuriating that Trump is denying disaster aid to Oregon for political reasons and I have barely heard anything about it, while Biden was falsely accused of doing the exact same thing to North Carolina and millions of people believed that

I didn't expect this early work to be THAT good [maybe falsely judging from the hideous American book cover(s)], so I won't waste any time to get from killing to healing and No. 47 of my #startrek anniversary reads: "Star Trek - Zeit des Wandels 8: Heilen" by @davidmack.pro ("A Time to Heal")
Ruben SchmittNo time travel shenanigans from Q this time but let's go back in time nevertheless to the "A Time to..." series for No. 45 of my #startrek anniversary reads: "Star Trek - Zeit des Wandels 7: Töten" by @davidmack.pro ("A Time to Kill")
And now I'm getting philosophical about Snoopy's Van Gogh. The painting was stolen from Snoopy in January, 1966... but he tracked down the thieves and got it back, and so it was in his house when it burned down that September. Had the thieves gotten away, that masterpiece might still exist.
Mike Sterling, Funnybooks GuyJust sitting here processing comics when the question "did Snoopy have the Andrew Wyeth painting in his doghouse before or after the fire?" popped unbidden into my head. (It was after...it replaced the Van Gogh he lost when the doghouse burned down.)
A billion dollars is the socio-economic equivalent of a loose nuke, and we should work with the same urgency and ruthlessness to prevent the acquisition of the former as we do the latter.
Robert ReichElon Musk is planning to spend at least $100 million to help Republicans in this year’s midterms. That’s just 0.014 percent of his current $702 billion net worth. Oligarchs can rig the system at the expense of everyone else, and only spend pennies doing so. We must get Big Money out of politics.
Maaaaaybe you'd like to give this a read? **gently shoves it toward you**
Ali TrottaDarlings!! Today, I am over at The Big Idea ( @scalzi.com ), talking about poetry and storytelling — who gets a voice and how powerful that voice is! whatever.scalzi.com/2026/07/21/t...
I somehow don't think that I can avoid posting this photo of William Shatner and birthday lady France Nuyen on Broadway in The World of Suzie Wong.
How Johnson can turn this: True independence is protecting your community, not covering for a secret police you gave a license to kill. Susan Collins handed ICE $70B in blank checks, voted down oversight, and now wants credit for photo-ops after a tragedy.
Greg SargentSusan Collins, who voted for $70 billion in no-strings-attached ICE funding, is now taking credit for securing new bodycams to distance herself from Trump and ICE. This is how Collins wins in Maine. Dems must go on offense on ICE to thwart this scam. New from me: newrepublic.com/article/2138...
The relationship one has with other writers after 20+ years of being in same field is, for me, a lot like the kinship old soldiers feel for others who have survived same wars, in same trenches. Even if you aren't close, or don't even like each other, there's real respect you have for one another.
During the Create Your Own Novel panel at SDCC this year, the best proposal I have ever heard from another panelist was made, specifically: writers should have walk-on music like wrestlers when we come out for panels.
I'm going through my work list, occasionally interspersed with further updates on how everyone I know is just trying to keep our US refugee friend safe and housed. This is not the first day this has happened, it's just hitting me harder. It should not be this difficult for trans people to just live.
If the US had not literally wiped this man from their own systems and deleted his passport and social security number, if it had not convinced his bank that he was legally nonexistent, he would be fine. He used to own his own house. He had a job. Instead, he is stateless and learning a new language.
Last week, the House narrowly passed the NDAA with provisions that would hand over US military decisions and data to Netanyahu. Your senators need to hear from you — send an email and urge the Senate to reject the Trump-Netanyahu military partnership.
Tell Your Members of Congress: Reject the Trump-Netanyahu Military PartnershipEvery year, Congress passes the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a massive defense bill considered a “must-pass” piece of legislation. Because it moves every year, lawmakers frequently try t...act.indivisible.orgEverything is bad, but books are good. Get a book. Read the book. Cherish the book. Finish the book. John Harris is such an influential artist. In celebration of the launch of Homeworld 3 in 2024, the legendary science-fiction artist created this new painting. This was a reinvention of the official art by @paulchadeisson.bsky.social 🔥
Andrew LiptakArtist John Harris was born on this day in 1948. He’s known for his vibrant covers for some of the genre’s best-known works. I interviewed him a couple of years ago about his inspirations, the beauty of space, and why AI can’t replicate human creativity. Read it here:
You know how people say, " This is a big deal, and people may regret not talking about it," about a lot of things, many of which get a fair bit of talking about. Well, this is a big deal, and people may regret not talking about it
Americans for Financial ReformPeople do not want this. Senators should listen to the public, not crypto billionaires trying to buy the rules they want. Tell your Senators to vote NO, oppose cloture, and support a filibuster of the CLARITY Act now. actionnetwork.org/letters/dema...
