Was scripting some questions as conversation starters ahead of con and it reminded me how normal I thought this was until I saw that episode of Patience where the autistic lead is scripting her phone calls and I'm thinking wait is that a sign of autism??? Don't people do this?? It's very helpful! 😆

I was just thinking about how I could reinvent myself as a blogger, only on YouTube 😅

Delilah S. Dawson

I hate how what I need to do is write books, and yet I keep thinking, "Maybe if I wore increasingly weird glasses and sat in front of my taxidermy with a bubble pipe and did unhinged houseplant reviews I could go viral and sell some books." Doing the work doesn't feel like enough, some days.

People I did not expect to run into in the Writers Symposium greenroom: Mychael the Librarian, the new host of Reading Rainbow 😆

On my own for dinner tonight and trying to think of what delightful place I should go.

Really enjoyed the mentorship panel at #gencon. Being old is hard.

The upside to people actually using tickets for panels at Gencon Writers Symposium is that you have a lot less panel hopping and disturbance. I also feel like people are a lot more engaged. It's that whole "you value something more that you've got more invested in."

I find the nerd "type" an extremely fascinating thing. Everyone we pass here reminds us of someone we know. There are only so many nerd archetypes, and we are all here in force, and we all age in similar ways. When you see us all together you realize your difference itself is, in fact, a type 😂

The day job team I went through the AI wars with a couple years back (where we desperately tried to work together to save our jobs from LLMs for 18 months and failed: 70% of us were fired and our director reassigned), are the coworkers I will forever feel closest to for life. Trauma bonding is real

Trauma bonding at Bar Con is so totally a thing.

Was talking to spouse about economics of Gencon for Indy (they're building 4 new hotels to keep the show here) and how Gencon attendees spend more money in Indy than sports fans and how that surprised a lot of people. But folks literally save up all year specifically to blow all their money here

The relationship one has with other writers after 20+ years of being in same field is, for me, a lot like the kinship old soldiers feel for others who have survived same wars, in same trenches. Even if you aren't close, or don't even like each other, there's real respect you have for one another.

I don't have any panels I'm ON today at #gencon, but here are the panels I plan to attend! (Many say they are sold out, but I've been told that if there are free seats when it begins and you have a generic ticket, you can get in.... unless it's something with Matt Dinnimen 🤣).
