I sent a classified letter to House and Senate colleagues about a secret interpretation of surveillance law that every American should be concerned about. Representative Massie is right. The Constitution requires EVERY member to vote against a clean reauthorization.

Me thinks they all are, including the Blotus.

We should be concerned but we don’t know what about. We know Musk stole all of our data and we know that the DOGE 20 somethings probably sold it on the dark net so that we can all have our identities stolen. And we are being constantly surveyed. So we are in Stalin’s Russia? What is it?

so tell us about it

Nice work. Then please find out why I am "randomly" selected by TSA every time I opt out of the face scan at PDX.

Yikes, this sucks. I didn't know that about Ron.

Senator, you are unconditionally protected by the Speech and Debate Clause if you read this interpretation into the Congressional record. Trump may try to come after you anyways, but the failed indictment of Senators Kelly and Slotkin shows they have not corrupted the grand jury system yet.

Ответ для Thoreau Away

I strongly urge you to tell us what this interpretation is on the floor of Congress.

Stop telling us to be concerned. That’s why we elect representatives. We know what’s going on. Do something about it!

Read the letter into the record

If a single Dem votes to renew this, they shouldn't just be primaried, they need to EJECTED FROM THE PARTY That includes Schumer - who will likely vote YAY

Ответ для Thanatos

They need to be ejected from society.

The CONSTITUTION requires it be blocked as a direct violation of our 4th amendment rights. If you democrats & republicans were AMERICANS you'd know this. Obviously you're not - you're democrats & republicans. Instead of listening to your mega donor masters, LISTEN TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!

Yes, you also voted to give Netanyandu more. So there's that.

Senator, I don't care if the information they're collecting is classified. Their "secret interpretation" of the law isn't. Tell us what that is.

nice cool cool sounds normal

Thank you-- proud to call you my Senator!

This regime and their obsession with secrets... How does a "secret interpretation of a law" even make sense? How do you enforce a law if no one, presumably even the courts, even know what it is? I have a better idea: Be open and honest with the people you purportedly serve, often called Americans.

Interestingly, that's the opposite of true! Sen. Wyden has a duty to handle classified information carefully and with discretion, because that's what classified MEANS. And I don't want to hear "But the other kids did it!" This isn't first grade.

This will probably be the single most important part of our legislative process that you won’t hear about from most republicans or democrats because both republican & democrat want our government to be able to spy on you 24/7 the rest of your life. Everything u ever do will be under surveillance.

This is all so messed up and scary

Thank you, Senator Wyden.

Uh 'secret interpretation of surveillance law' is so dystopian

Ответ для Bodily autonomy, still a thing

The topic has come up several times post 9/11. Wyden repeatedly votes, in the end, to support unconstitutional surveillance powers. He's only trying to look good until he betrays America one more time.

Ya 😊

This is hilarious! They bitch and complain about their office phone logs being requested by Jack Smith and they even go as far as to make a law that allows them to sue, but the peasants are fine to surveil. They all need to go!

Thank you Senator. I’m glad to be your constituent.

You are going to have to get a bit more specific.

Ответ для Bob Clouse

Sounds like something that should be read into the record.

Good work finding it, but we are talking about people who literally secret circulated the anti-4th amendment as training material for ICE, so just keep that in mind that no one here is following rules.

Massie is the only Republican that I can say he puts the Constitution 1st. He does what's REQUIRED. NOW, THAT'S FAR AND FEW BETWEEN.

Absolutely Trump is already using everything he can to control us! You give him this FISA and he will turn us into a dictatorship asap!

Thank you, from a constituent and a gal who like democratic order.

My Senator!!! Grateful, sir.

Thank you so much for your work on this.

For the moment everything Trump should be voted down. America needs to "close the shop" and lock the country down until Trump goes away and takes his merry band of criminal idiots with him.

Did you know congresspeople will live 14 years longer than you, eat food you do not, have doctors you can only dream of, have real educations... Did you know it costs us $900,000 to $2,000,000 per year to support a congressperson's way of life? No other peer democracy does this.

A. You should share it with everyone right here, or you are part of the problem. B. This is about the GD billionaires AGAIN. Our civil liberties are on the line and big money is controlling our elected officials.

It’s too bad the majority party, save for Massie and usually Paul, hate the Constitution.

Senator, I've voted for you at each opportunity I've been given. I am curious which politicians you are training and talking to both locally and nationally to take up this mantle once you retire. We can't lose your expertise and tenacity on this issue!

Thank you, Senator Wyden and Representative Massie.

That sounds really ominous. We do NOT need more surveillance - we need to roll back what was implemented post 9/11. It is not keeping the people safer; it violates our privacy and makes us less free.

Ответ для ☝️SoSayU

Obama's admin toughened the requirements so way fewer people fell into the "net" and FISA warrants were required to do an investigation. Bush had swept up anyone. I know. I was one of them.

The government should know my "secret interpretation" of "go fuck yourself." 🖕🏼

FISA was wrong from the start. I was shocked that our new President, Obama, signed the bill to continue the law.

If we need to be concerned, tell us what it is.

I think the votes are now 217-214 in the House. One more Repub stalls it.

As a career national security professional it pains me to say that I don’t trust the current leaders in FBI/NSA/CIA to do the right thing with the broad surveillance authorities and I’m OK with shutting them down…we will lose an edge but the cost to our citizens’ rights is too high with this govt…

Ответ для John Burnham

As somebody who worked with those agencies in the private sector, there are so few people doing a reputable job right now in these agencies The purge; whenever needs to make sure those people CAN NEVER work in a federal agency and are barred from being nominated or temp assigned to an agency

Ответ для John Burnham

The federal bureau of imbeciles and central idiots agency and the national insecurity agency all betrayed their missions -- shutting them down would IMPROVE national security and most importantly the safety of ordinary americans simply by stopping their support for the terrorists

Ответ для John Burnham

When the President himself writes: “I am willing to risk the giving up of my Rights and Privileges as a Citizen for our Great Military and Country!” That should give us all pause. I am sure I’m not alone in asserting that I am NOT willing to give up my rights as a citizen.

Thank you Senator Wyden.

Call me ignorant but I didn't know that we have laws with "secret interpretations" in this republic. I knew we had these weird secretive courts where only the government shows up to plead its case. But how can a law be in our name and we don't know its interpretation?

Well done, senator. Keep fighting the good fight.

Thank you for doing the right thing.

I have never regretted voting for you.

I think Thomas Massey is probably the first Republican I’ve ever felt that was an honest good human being. These 2 cared about society and cared about our country. Rand Paul has showed up too lately and impressive. Makes you wanna work harder to cross over and care about each other again💙🇺🇸

Ответ для Resistance Fighter #1 🇺🇸4 All #988

I live in Kentucky, and I have agreed with Rand Paul and Thomas Massie more lately than I ever have. Even McConnell, I haven't seen him lately, but he's gone against Trump some this term, too.

You got to tell the PEOPLE, clearly, what we should be concerned about.

You have blood on your hands Wyden!

Nonzero probability that Fetterman is going to vote in favour of it regardless because he thinks bipartisanship trumps the Constitution.

Most of us guessed there was some "secret interpretation" the minute Trump loudly demanded that Republicans had to get on board to reauthorize this. When it's important to Trump (such as the SAVE Act), it means he's seizing illegal control. I have no doubt that is part of the issue here.

Ответ для Mark Bardell

It would be slam-dunk in the courts: Any "interpretation" of a law needs to be publicly known for it to be enforceable. That would be a "duh" thing. Unfortunately, in order to bring the issue to court, one would need to be aware that it is in fact being used on them. I spy a problem.

Given the way it gets handled by the current administration, does classified mean anything anymore?

Republicans will vote however Netanyahu TELLS them to vote. It is evident that the senate must be the first corrupted, before it can attempt an establishment of tyranny. - Alexander Hamilton

so will you be telling us what is in those documents or not? because you can and you should. what’s the point of grandstanding like this if you aren’t gonna tell us what we actually need to be concerned about??

Ответ для Ricky Roo

Under sec 702 FISA, the U.S. government engages in mass, warrantless surveillance of Americans’ and foreigners’ phone calls, text messages, emails, and other electronic communications. Information collected under the law without a warrant can be used to prosecute and imprison people Source: ACLU

“a secret interpretation of surveillance law”, or as described below “a secret government interpretation of FISA”, both of which are terrifying.

Not sure if I should thank you for this info. Would love to know what we the every American is supposed to do about this! Are your colleagues aware, is there a plan? Is there going to be an overthrow?

Ответ для SpringForward@bsky.social🌻☘️🥀🌺🦋 🇺🇦 🇨🇦 🇩🇰 🇬🇧

You have to vote in a massive Dem presence. VETO proof would be great so we could override a veto on our protections.

Refine and require a warrant. This is as bad as Noem/Lewandowski/Miller ICE in violating the Constitution. Some of us pay attention this. Don't reauthorize unless there is a warrant for access. This is all going to come back to hurt republicans if they don't change it to require a warrant.

It should go without saying that the least possible unchecked power this administration has, the better.

I’m gonna take a wild stab here. FISA 702 was written to allow the FBI to tap into private communications between foreigners and US citizens. So our Bondi/Blanche DOJ has done a secret re-interpretation? THIS DOJ? Trump’s DOJ?? “Foreigners” now include undocumented immigrants. ICE is wiretapping.

Ответ для Eric Hainline

Bush did it w "trigger word" alerts 2003-on. Obama ended it. In his admin, only if a phone number "lit up" being contacted by a known terrorist, a warrant had to be obtained to investigate. US citizens were immune. We're now back to warrantless trigger word searches of everyone.

that's a big deal. what's the secret interpretation and how does it affect us?

Thomas Massie is right. If there are secret interpretations or abuses, you shouldn’t just rubber-stamp the law again. You should force changes before renewing it. Under the Fourth Amendment the government shouldn’t conduct unreasonable surveillance

They have a "secret" interpretation of a law? Are we going to need guns to fight them? If the average citizen can't understand a law, then it can't be enforced, and anyone who tries should suffer a revolt.

Thanks, Senator. Those of us with experience knew something was way off when Patel dismantled FBI's FISA compliance regime. 🙇

Why did you vote to send more weapons to Israel?

This is why Snowden is living Russia while those with the most power to live with the consequences will hide that the government is abusing them.

Ответ для Oasis by Sea - Free Palestine

Snowden is living in Russia because he violated a network's security protocols, violated his contract, and violated the law. If he comes back, I'll buy him a beer, but only after he's done five years in prison. I spent my career as a sysadmin. Do not fuck with my network. I *will* see you in prison.

Yeah. FISA needs serious beefing up. We are already way over exposed. Congress slept on data privacy while EU did the right thing by its citizens. Danish citizens own copyright to their likeness and voice, so that deepfakes can be sued for copyright infringement.

How can the interpretation of law be considered classified? Makes no fucking sense. Secret just means a way to violate our rights without accountability.

Senator. Call me in my SCIF

Post it on here senator. You can

🤬is there anything this administration does that will not infringe on our constitutional rights and liberties? WTAF ! They pass laws to make it legal to spy on citizens without any involvement of the courts, without a warrant, without even a cause.

Oooh I’ll bet it has strong words, maybe the strongest words

If “every American should be concerned about”, why was it sent it as a “classified letter” and not “open letter”? Trying to defeat yourself at your game? Brilliant, eh?

Yeah we got the memo:

You need to repeal all those bush era surveillance programs including the Patriot act. Eliminate the DNI

This is how we can tell it’s election season All you useless Epstein-class account executives start engaging in the theater of empty promises to the people you need votes from.

It's classified. He can't without being stripped of clearance and possibly being prosecuted. One can reasonably assume that there's some horrific violation of civil liberties going on beyond all the publicly known ones.

Ответ для Urban

Wyden pulls this move a lot. He’s directing journalists at the classified information without leaking it himself.

Ответ для Urban

Does the "secret interpretation" include a word that starts with, "Pal" and ends with "entir" ?!

The most important thing is to make sure your tribe is ready, and has the supplies to draw/paint on cave walls... Shouldn't be too long before what remains of MAGA will have burned all the books, to stay warm, and burned anybody who CAN read or write... as witches👀.

Ответ для Urban

Worst case, he could read the whole thing into the Congressional record, like they did with The Pentagon Papers. Presumably, they are working to do everything to resolve this without going to those lengths, just yet.

Ответ для Urban

Because if it really is classified, he doesn’t have authority to divulge it and could be charged criminally for doing so.

Reminds me of the `3 hops` rule. I used Snowdon as an example - anyone within 3 hops from Snowdon could be surveilled. Snowdon did a Reddit IAMA and hundreds of thousands US citizens interacted with him, thus putting themselves *1-hop* from the most surveilled man of 2014.
