I would also read the fact that collins is the one willing to make a deal as a sign shes sweating the election. She doesn't want the added pressure of a shutdown on top of the amount of hatred shes already getting and being willing to make a deal to keep it from being an issue is a sign shes nervous

I have no dog in this fight but it seems a coherent package to back. I suppose the only outside risk is Reps doing something mental in the lame duck period but that was a possibility anyway

This is an act of desperation from Collins and we should celebrate Murray and Schumer for neutering government funding as a last minute wedge issue

I’m in agreement with you, but for one point you may have overlooked: Trump would somehow make it worse and end up taking credit for the shutdown. I’m good with a smart play, but don’t elide the irrationality of some of the actors here.

Especially sincr the last one had the at least somewhat popular we don't want to give a massive budget to ICE goons. What is the messaging for this one? It seems a lot to gamble right before the midterms that the GOP will take the blame again.

Exactly, Dems are just about maximizing their gains in the midterms and the downside risk of another shutdown outweighs any marginal benefit. Also US voters have the attention span of fruit flies so I doubt they’d remember something that happened in late October by election day.

I live in ME. She keeps getting elected because of this shit. She can deliver outsized funding to the state.Lots of Democrats own or work in non-profits & small businesses.She’s able to peel off a good number of Democrats just because of the money. She has a coalition of voters from all sides.

I agree with you, but the steelman of the other side is that shutting down the gov't through Nov might hurt Trump more. I don't know that I believe that but it's not nuts.
