When the weather gets colder i think of one of my favourite horror novels, THE AUCTIONEER by Joan Samson. A quiet little nightmare about giving your soul away in pieces so small you don't even realize you're doing it. Wintry rural horror. Can't recommend it enough.

Here’s a fun thing I learned while making a movie: A hat on a hat rack is set decoration But if someone puts it on it becomes costume And if they throw it at someone else it becomes prop
Dave DavesonOh no, didnt think you were. It's just more that people outside the industry think about the departments they know of but obviously ignore departments whose roles are unknown to them. The sheer amount of collaboration that goes into making films is shocking.
The only *guaranteed* piece of craft advice I can give -- I mean the advice that is universally applicable -- is that if you kill many other writers and eat their scribere gland (roughly the size of a black-eyed pea, so be careful not to damage it) then your prose will improve immensely
Perhaps the unlikeliest of comedy sketches to crop up in 2026, but also one of the funniest:
"This is the story that Y and I used to tell, used to tell in the quiet of the night, in the hours of the quiet of the night, and the moonlight would come, moving forward, moving close; used to whisper to each other in the night..."
just realised I've watched more black and white movies in 2026 so far (6) than I had in my whole life until that point, can't believe I spent so long I assuming all old films had to be dull
Nothing else to do this evening, so It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World for the first time. I have no idea what this film is about.
Walking around a food festival in the park when @valleyguitarist.bsky.social starts giggling at this WELL SHIT ALIEN PIZZA
I often take 'accidental' photos of my fingers/hand when I'm using my phone to take pictures. I usually delete them. When I was looking for a megalith pic earlier I found this work of genius.
I love a ghoulish old film. And as it happens, I started one of my novels (Too Near The Dead) with a scene very similar to this... www.youtube.com/watch?v=tURA...
Watched Smile 2 again (that’s a good good film) and noticed for the first time how much Millennial / Gen Z horror involves the injury to the head and face. It’s relatable and horrible, but is it also something to do with phones / selfies and your identity really being your facial features?
Zum Geburtstag von Raoul Hausmann werfen wir einen Blick auf sein Werk. Raoul Hausmann (12. Juli 1886 - 1. Februar 1971): ABCD (Selbstporträt), 1923–24.
I love how completely extra Ligotti is. Instead of saying “if he turned to his left he would see” he of course goes “if Fallio had a small mirror installed in the right hand page of the book he was reading and looked into it he would have seen….”
Late night scrollers - my new reading post is up if anyone fancies a gander! kieranstorieswriter.wordpress.com/2026/08/01/o...
