KTLA knows who their audience is 😷

When were these tweets posted? I'm trying to find the study. Thanks!

This is old news.

That's why Trump is so into fossil fuels. #MAGAMorons

They’re still using too many syllables.

COMMUNICATION: turns out there are okay ways to do it, but also better ways to do it.

The air in Florida must be particularly bad.

Ответ для Robert Fessler

California literally voted to keep slavery legal in the last election. I think the US is the problem.

Ответ для Discordant🫍Muse

What are you talking about?

Ответ для Lt. Broccoli

There's an exception to slavery written into the Constitutional Amendments. California is notorious for abusing it, and when put to the ballot in the last general election, Californians voted to keep it legal.

Ответ для Discordant🫍Muse

Aha for the incarcerated yeah that's bs... we should do a ballot measure instead of mucking about with the legislature

Ответ для Lt. Broccoli

it was a ballot measure and it featured no counterarguments 🤯

Ответ для Guillotine Hunger Force

They should have included the word slavery in it.

Ответ для Lt. Broccoli

could have helped but "involuntary servitude" seems more precise because its really only one component of the chattel slavery we used to have

Ответ для Guillotine Hunger Force

Normies don't think about folks in the big house... unclear if they knew what they voted for/against

Ответ для Lt. Broccoli

i sure hope thats the reason or something like it

Ответ для Lt. Broccoli

It was a ballot measure. However the word ‘slavery’ was not included in the ballot language. calmatters.org/politics/ele...

Anti-slavery measure Prop. 6 fails, allowing forced labor to continue in California prisonsCalifornia voters rejected the anti-slavery measure Proposition 6, which would have banned forced labor in state prisons.calmatters.org
Ответ для Discordant🫍Muse

The 13th Amendment abolished slavery & involuntary servitude “except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted.” Cali’s constitution mirrors this language. A measure to remove this exception (Proposition 6) from California’s constitution failed 47-53% in Nov 2024.

Ответ для Craig Thomler

Whether this exception was or is ‘abused’ is a matter of opinion, not fact. Many US states allow this conduct and it has been normalised in the USA for over a century. The best approach would be to amend the 13th amendment of your national constitution to eliminate the loophole.

Ответ для Craig Thomler

That sounds insurmountable in this landscape... unbelievable that it didn't pass... must have been phrased real poorly on the ballot

Ответ для Lt. Broccoli

It is a symptom of the larger issues the U.S. continues to fail to deal with.

Ответ для Craig Thomler

Too true and everything gets put on the back burner with the fascists' 'flood the zone' approach to their cruelty.

Ответ для Lt. Broccoli

It seems to be a tactic that works to some extent. Something to keep in mind when opposing them. Others can play the same playbook.

Ответ для Craig Thomler

That would be the one.

Ответ для Discordant🫍Muse

I think mischaracterizing what happened in that election is only going to mean it will be repeated. The people who made the failed measure admit they should have said “slavery”, because the people of CA surely would have voted like the people of NV and outlawed it.

Ответ для Dan Po

I think people think too highly of California.

Ответ для Discordant🫍Muse

You sound smart 😆

Ответ для Discordant🫍Muse

Also the initiative process in CA is a poor measure of sentiment because we have so many initiatives and 2/3 fail, because people have learned to just vote no if you lack information.

Ответ для Discordant🫍Muse

And how have the Floridians voted? Do tell...

Ответ для Discordant🫍Muse
S

If the proposition hadn’t included language about refusing work assignments, it would have passed.

Ответ для sargasso

Californians didn't want them to be able to refuse work?

Ответ для Discordant🫍Muse
S

The language of the proposition was loose enough that people (and editorials) argued it would prevent prisons from asking prisoners to do basic chores like bussing their dishes and making their beds. Those arguments were probably not in good faith in many cases. But it was an avoidable error.

Ответ для sargasso
S

A proposition simply stating that involuntary servitude is banned, without extra language to argue over, would almost certainly have passed given the narrow margin. That nuance is not as fun when throwing around blanket statements. But this is the risk of wading into something unfamiliar to you.

Ответ для sargasso

I'm familiar with Californians. That's why I know there's not really an excuse for this vote. Xavier Becerra is their first choice for fuck sake, and Gavin Newsom is their current star. 🤮

Ответ для Discordant🫍Muse
S

🙄 Ok, I see where we are. One option is to believe that a concept that passed 80-20 in Utah was rejected in California a couple years later because it California a far more conservative place. Another would be to look at the actual language and the experience of the campaign.

Ответ для sargasso

Explains Phoenix

"Trump raped children." -KTLA

Wow DJT must have lived very long in a badly polluted area.

Who the heck spells dumber with a "b"?

and all those people who grew up with air you could see..

So that's what's wrong with the people in Phoenix. One of the lowest education levels in the country. Makin' sense now.

There's a "b" at the end of the word "dumb", most people don't know that. Apparently.

Loved you for a long time, from your trombone days to the opener on @WeirdAl’s last tour. Damn, you make me laugh so hard. Thanks.

Know your market.

THE US MILITARY IS THE #1 GLOBAL POLLUTER : alone has fired more than 337,000 bombs and missiles in the past two decades. Bombers and fighter jets transport weapons & burn enormous quantities of fuel... jets can burn through 4.28 gallons of gasoline/mile.

Ответ для Snapple Caps

Israel’s military activities, even without accounting for periods of active conflict, contribute approximately 7 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent annually AT MINIMUM and when engaged in warfare that number dramatically increases (cough)

Ответ для Snapple Caps

I can say, from personal experience, witnessing sailors dump trash into the ocean during underways. Typically, trash is offloaded during replenishments, but for some reason, some jackasses didn't want to hold on to the fucking paint cans and other shit..."it'll sink."

Ответ для Miss Frijole

for sure they aren't just litterbugs though, burn pits, munitions, agent orange, forest deforestation, chemical spills, flame retardants, fuckin just running all the bases and like 800,000 military buildings around the world on any given day, it's a fuckin environmental scourge

Ответ для Snapple Caps

You are correct. It's atrocious what the military does to the environment.

Damn, I hope that isn’t true, some of us can’t afford to get any dumber “(dum with a “b” on the end), anyway, some of can’t afford to get any dumber!! MAGA, I’m talking to you!!!!!

🤣

DC must be incredibly polluted

I’m going to need it dumbed down a bit more.

The irony is so thick you could slice it. or in KTLA speak words that mean words funny more at 11.

I think of years and years of that orange makeup paste rotted the cells in his body.

Thankfully KTLA translated this meaningless "Liberal" NPR "babble" into "American Words" my Republican Conservative funded Public School educated was able to understand. God Bless President Trump!

I sorta retired from 20+ yrs as a creative to being a P/T professor. The school documentation all looks like example 1. My lectures all sound like example 2. Students appreciate straight talk. In the job we always spoke plainly. Why is legalese a thing? It breeds frustration and animosity.

I guess Telawork makes much more sense for workers instead of clogging up all the freeways and causing more pollution. Oh!! I forgot, we can not have telawork since all the big investors may not get their money's worth from their big buildings. After all, they need more to put in their pockets.

If we were any stupider we’d go to Jupiter.

KTLA had to dumb it down for those who want to defund NPR.

KTLA KNOWS YOU!

NPR has really got the skill of understated headlines down to a science

Making the nation collectively dumber and it wasn't a particularly smart nation to begin with.

This tells me: NPR pays by the word. KTLA pays by the post.

DIRTY AIR BAD! MAKE DUMB!

Now you know why they're so intent on continuing to burn fossil fuels in the US, even though solar power is cheaper.

Definitely one of the reasons imo.

AND the impacts increase with Twitter! 🤔 🤣

I didn't understand the NPR one...

Teachers knew this in the 1860s! -Second Industrial Revolution began in the 1840s. Irish children suffered from pollution-induced cognitive deficits resulting from the famine (orchestrated to provide millions of Irish people with jobs in new industries in the UK and USA?) and Industrial Revolution.

That was funny.

Wait. Isn’t that spelled “dummer”? Asking for the birthday boy.

I'm sure people in Oklahoma and other deep red states won't hear about this report on air pollution making us dumber. That's dumb with a 'b' by the way.

Fantastic news

NPR seems to pander to people who would never read or listen to NPR.

which is why the zoomers call us GenXers the LEAD GENERATION

Welll, duhhh!

We really should be educating up not dumbing down! If an average adult with school leavers cannot understand the NPR piece, then there is something hugely wrong with our education system. As a 10/11yo if I asked my Dad what a word meant he pointed to the dictionary or encyclopedia & said find out!

"the impact increases with... twitter"

Such a lucky coincidence for the polluters! #Serendipity

Obviously we need to get rid of these stupid studies.

Looking for this one, thanks. (Still really need a way for the "kit-laa" pronunciation to come through.)

perhaps the reason so many are mentally unable to think is lead poisoning? I keep trying to figure out why there are so many of them.

Nice of KTLA to dumb it down a bit for us.

Ya gotta dumb it down a lil, NPR. With all the pollution and such...

The pollution must be really dreadful in DC

Kinda explains 11/24 …..

KTLA better get its lawyers on standby. Trump’s FCC may come for its license.

It also contributes to mental disorders.

So the people who have actually been made dumber can understand what happened to them.

No much little Doubt about It…

Data centers cause significant air pollution. So does SpaceX. Get rid of all of them

Ответ для fire65

It doesn’t have to be space-x but you do need rockets if you want to, for example, study air pollution.

Ответ для Jason Bender

You're quite right about the need for rockets. I hate to see any general tendency to associate all rockets with Elon, though.

Ответ для Sherrerd

As a lover of rockets and space stuff, I heartily agree. We live in a time where the duality of capitalism is pulling our spirits apart like the spaghettification of a black hole. Painful stuff.

Ответ для Jason Bender

Um… I hate to state the obvious but you also need data in order to post messages complaining about data centers on social media. I swear the pure ignorance surrounding data centers is astounding.

Ответ для movinmountains

Yeah, a very small proportion of data centre compute is used for AI. Most of it is hosting the internet. But they’ve become the new Glonzo!

Ответ для Jared 🔶

These massive new datacenters planned in the last year were quite clearly marketed to us a AI datacenters, though, right? Can’t really blame people for reacting to that part. (Though AI confusion is definitely real, as a general rule.)

Ответ для Jason Bender

That’s true, and some of the worst offenders are AI companies (like xAI who powered theirs with illegal gas turbines), but also everyone is marketing everything as AI right now. Red Lobster is saying they’ll be an AI restaurant! So there’s that too.

Ответ для Jason Bender

Most data centers being built are still for multi use purposes. Marketing data centers for AI attracts potential buyers that have the financial means to purchase them. Data centers are big business for a reason. It’s too bad most people don’t have a clue how many already exist.

Ответ для movinmountains

there are power companies in america telling regular citizens that their power needs are going to be abandoned to focus on powering data centers even if you want to nitpick exact details about the minutiae of data center usage, their propagation is still doing harm

Ответ для ihatetrolling

The lack of regulations surrounding the use and development of data centers is definitely causing harm to consumers. Data centers should be powered by renewable energy & have designs that use a minimal amount of water. People should also have limits on data usage, then people will understand.

Ответ для ihatetrolling

People should not be allowed to complain about data centers and then continue to use large amounts of data.

Ответ для Sherrerd

We're on it.

LOL Dumbed it down to one sentence

Tracks…

Been predicting this for years, half-jokingly, admittedly, but half-seriously as well, that the dramatic rise in atmospheric CO2 concentrations is having a small but significant effect on humans due to chronic, worsening exposure. Think CO2 microdosing = BAD. Might explain rise in public stupidity.

hilarious

These days, I sometimes envy those with lower cognition. Happily ignorant they will be until it ends for them.

Ответ для WarriorAngel

WHY THE HELL DO YOU THINK TRUMP WANTS IT...

I agree 💯

I did a report in high school on the neurotoxicity hypothesis on violent crime. It goes back to leaded paints, leaded gas from exhaust and white flight out of downtown centers and ethnic children growing up with such chemicals known to alter brain chemistry in their water, playgrounds, school walls.

pollution is literally stupid.

If pollution causes cognitive decline, Washington D.C. must lead the world in emissions. The sheer scale of institutional amnesia inside the Beltway makes perfect sense now. Our capital city is choking on its own toxic exhaust.

I agree with this!

the rule is if you make me snork laugh you get a follow

KTLA has been in the air since 1947.

But the Trump administration has scrapped the anti-pollution regulations to free industry from the heavy hand of government. Is this wrong?

How sad that a significant number of people are so uneducated that they have to read the KTLA statement to understand. :(

And AI

A play in two acts.

Back the truck up to the WH and play village people songs and when the administration leaves at night they won't remember where to return to. Trumps already foggy - unlikely to make a measurable detectable difference.

Voting for Trump is making MAGA dumber than they were before! Notice, "dumber" is spelled with a "b". A lot of people don't know that.

Hahahahaha

Exactly why we need NPR

Ответ для The Ghost of Mark Twain

Meh. NPR is nostalgic, but has been compromised by their right wing donors. They are the mouthpiece of the wealthy more often than they are a voice of reason.

Ответ для Boots

I am a member (WHYY out of Philadelphia) and I find them to be, news wise, very factual and with limited bias or sway. The SHOWS are often lefty, but never noted a right wing slant. Again, WHYY out of Philly isn't a station out or Norman OK 🤣

Ответ для The Ghost of Mark Twain

the problem with biased news isn't the slant you can see, it's the omissions you can't see

I agree they are generally unbiased when it comes to politics. I used to be a daily listener. NPR news leans left, but against true progressives they are centrists at most. Ответ для Boots

The news should be centrist. Give me the facts.

Ответ для The Ghost of Mark Twain
