Such a weird framing! The article doesn't even consider that few people these days - men or women - consider marriage a serious option until they are individually economically and financially stable. It makes sense that the marriages that do happen are between two such people.

60 years ago high earning men married the daughters of high earning men. This is not new. People have always married within their own social circle/class.

I teach high school in an exurban and very white district. Many families have embraced the notion that boys aren't just good at school and hold them to zero expectations. Shockingly, "Boys will be Boys" is just as dumb when applied to academics as it is shameful when applied to sexual behavior.

I imagine college- educated women are also “snapping up” college educated women. And not “snapping” anyone up until much later. And, btw, a lot of careers that generally build on college degrees (or more) are not the highest paying jobs.

Working hard and achieving higher levels of education used to be regarded universally as societal positives. It’s been dismaying to see that change in response to women achieving well.
