Oh we sparred over economic issues too. Stimulus, recovery, inflation, we spent years arguing over the sweet spot and comparing it to the Obama stimulus. But recovering from a global pandemic is an insanely hard thing to base consistent policies around without sounding like an idiot or a monster.

My purchases are necessary; everyone else spends recklessly. My taxes are too high; everyone else's taxes are too low. My labor is undervalued; everyone else's is over-valued. Now build me a coherent tax policy that makes me happy while costing me nothing.

I still think about this. There's just no way I could have taken some of these jobs (at those salaries) if rent prices were what they are today. Yet they were necessary stepping stones to better jobs. It's not hard to see why Gen Z is open to socialism if this is all capitalism has to offer.
