Literally a week after Barnes was fired the hours of the CARE team were expanded from 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM - 1:00 AM. Firing Barnes got results fast! www.instagram.com/p/DboFnMosVVJ/

Seattle's crisis response team leader Amy Barden hasn't met with Police Chief Shon Barnes since Bruce Harrell appointed him in 2024, despite the fact that the two departments are supposed to work together to decide which 911 calls require cops and which require a social work/mental health response.

The Brem Fire Department pissed off a bunch of politically active people by opposing bike protection on Central Brem's 6th Street multimodal safety project. If they lose, it will have been a factor, I'm certain. www.theurbanist.org/op-ed-will-b...

Tree Action Seattle, a sponsored organization of the Seattle Parks Foundation - a 501(c)3 org - put up an Instagram post last night promoting candidates who had been endorsed by TreePAC. I do not believe that little disclaimer at the bottom is going to cut it here.

Minneapolis, I'm going to be in your city later this week! Anyone want to ride bikes? Apart from childhood trips directly to the Mall of America, this will be my first time actually getting to explore Minneapolis.

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

Your boss and your landlord have voted.

NEW: Young people are on the ballot this election, but can we please get young people to the ballot BOX? So far, King County voters 65+ account for 4 times as many ballots as people under 35. You have until 8pm Tuesday to close that gap!

@cmeddielin.bsky.social @mayor.seattle.gov @alexis4seattle.bsky.social Could we get some information about how the decision to kneecap transit in the Rainier Valley for Seafair was made? And who we need to complain to to fix it?

This should be the last year the bus lane on Rainier gets "opened" for Seafair drivers. This is not an effective way to move people, and it's completely unfair to transit dependent Rainier Valley residents. bsky.app/profile/mesm...

Michael Smith

Explicitly open to cars. Cops were directing traffic at most intersections and telling people to drive in the bus lane.

I still can’t believe someone thought: “How do we get tens of thousands of people to and from a residential neighborhood? Let’s kneecap transit service for everyone in the area!”

The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.

Never forget, we can double the # of people in a pedestrian street or people-place in 2 ways— by doubling the # of people who come (which is harder), or by doubling the length of time people stay (easier, but we often get this wrong). My kids played in this spot for an hour. Make streets magnetic.

Brent Toderian

The Big Apple bench is going in. The ball chairs that were all soccer balls during the World Cup, now reflect all sorts of summer sports you can watch on Granville Street patios. Tonight’s Dominican Street Dance drew a crowd. And simple games help make the street magnetic. Week Two looking good.

I hope that we'll see transportation advocacy orgs represented in this search committee. The top public safety concern for a number of years from Seattle residents is dangerous driving. A new police chief should be able to engage with that reality.

Mayor Katie B. Wilson

Seattle deserves a real voice in choosing its next Police Chief. We’ll create a search committee that reflects the diversity of our city and builds a public engagement process that gives residents a meaningful role in defining what we look for in our next chief. More details on that to come.
