oh, youvve read a few academic papers on the matter? cute. i have read over 100000 posts. Liberal, progressive, whatever... But right now what you're for matters a whole lot less than what you're against.

It's absolutely insane we've somehow let the Covid recriminations debate become like "why didn't we reopen in person schools before there was a vaccine" and not "why did none of the trump guys go to jail for stealing PPE from New York hospitals in March 2020"

When it comes to Trump’s money laundering, this is just the tip of the iceberg. The Trump Soho laundered Russian mob money. Trump Panama laundered drug cartel money. Trump Azerbaijan laundered Iranian Revolutionary Guard money. Florida real estate was used to launder Russian oligarch money.

🚨 NEWS: In a new court filing, Capital One says Donald Trump’s accounts were closed in 2021 after months of analysis by its anti-money laundering (AML) professionals, not because of politics, as Trump has long claimed. 1/

Three years ago, our reporter received an envelope with no return address. Inside was a flash drive containing tens of thousands of files: years of secretly recorded conversations, private militia chat logs and videos sent by a man named John Williams. (Published Jan. 2025)

A Mole Infiltrated the Highest Ranks of American Militias. This Is What He Found.Outraged by the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, a wilderness survival trainer spent years undercover climbing the ranks of right-wing militias. He didn’t tell police or the FBI. A lot of people understandably see it as a threat, and I think they gish gallop themselves as a coping mechanism. It doesn’t work and billionaires and techbros and copyright and it’ll ruin the children and stochastic parrot and Gary Marcus and it’s a bubble and the economics don’t work and and and

People will keep using Google search that they know includes AI, keep using Google Maps that they know includes AI, keep buying iPhones they know contain AI, stay on social media they know is being used to spy on us, and then condemn Hank Green for using that tech to read cancer research papers.

one aggressive hardball thing I would like to see happen is blue states coordinating to have deliberately contradictory and difficult to navigate regulatory environments for hostile regime-aligned businesses such as X. what red states did with abortion pre dobbs.

seeing hank green actually attempting to examine evidence and not make decisions based purely on emotions or scary Glonzo stories despite huge pressure from his social cohort to do so has made me respect him 100x more in the past year

I often hear that it would be "too expensive" to add bicyclist detection to new vehicles in the US - where new vehicles already average ~$50k But here's a $8,350 kei car in Japan that pulls it off because New Car Assessment has made it effectively standard www.automotiveworld.com/topics/softw...

I think that not only is this good politics, but the stability of American society depends on it. Liberal American normies are out for blood, but *everyone* is in an anti-system mood. If we don't feed that beast some sacrifices, it'll find someone who can, and those sacrifices will be innocent.

I can barely even process what this post is saying, it’s too big.

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.

Love this idea that industry should subsidize basic research. Industry famously is great at prioritizing timelines longer than a year or two

Yeah so NYT asked me ~2 yrs ago to write an op-ed about how the Colorado is running dry, & what we should do to keep this exact thing from happening. I said "There's only one real answer. Bill farmers by how much water they use. Duh." NYT editorial staff freaked tf out & cancelled the piece.

saw an article today about an az politician saying how great it was that we're now in emergency drought conditions because the farmers get automatic bailouts and I feel like way more Professional Rural Understanders just breeze by sentences like that. www.paysonroundup.com/news/arizona...

Reiterating that Musk's literal voter bribery last time was an unambiguous go-directly-to-jail felony, for which people have been successfully prosecuted over vastly smaller amounts. It wasn't just pouring money into a PAC, whatever one thinks of that. It was a black-letter plain-as-day crime.

Musk got away with his $1 million vote-buying scheme in 2024. Why wouldn't he try something similar this November?

Among many other things this is a good illustration of the necessity of untethering ideology and "fight" in intra-Democratic battles. The party is very united on fight, very divided on ideology. You unite on fight, let different constituencies/states find their center of gravity on ideology.

It's basically inevitable that we're all going to make the shift to clean renewable energy for one simple reason — at the current trajectory of solar and battery tech it's going to be substantially cheaper.
