John Carpenter always had very good taste in actors. I think a notable exception was when he was saddled with Chevy Chase (poor bastard!)

The older I get, the more I admire John Carpenter’s PRINCE OF DARKNESS. It’s all atmosphere and tone, it has zero logic, and it works.

Wasn’t able to sleep so I put on a film. LAST TANGO IN PARIS. Hoo, boy. Do I have thoughts. First: it’s ravishingly beautiful to look at. That said, Marlon Brando’s character is utterly repellent, and yet I was engrossed. I respected that it ended the way the story had to.

Downplay a book or movie: “The Penultimate of the Mohicans.”

For the heck of it, I put on DR. NO, and by god, it still sucks me right in.

This is doomy, but weaponized xenophobia and nativist sentiment is going to be the death of us all. I spit on Rupert Murdoch and all of his ilk for figuring out a very lucrative way to make people hate one another simply for having a different ethnicity or nationality of origin.

The 4K of DROWNING BY NUMBERS is absolutely luminous. It's a little pricey but worth every penny.

It *must* be some sort of rights thing.

Alright, cinema boffins, why is there no 4K edition of THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE & HER LOVER? If any film was begging for a really good restoration and rerelease, it's that one. A boutique studio could charge $$$ and they'd sell every single copy.

I genuinely like Edward Elgar's first symphony, but it feels ever so slightly like "Brahms Lite." This is not inherently bad! But I feel that it lacks the distinctive voice of works like the Enigma Variations or Cockaigne.

Fun fact about this greaseball: his brother-in-law is Matt Gaetz (yes, THAT one.)

I have to give Apple credit. They're the *only* big tech company that successfully "read the room" and realized that most people hate this stuff. By not forcing Apple Intelligence on every customer, they're positioning themselves very well.

Ooh. This has possibilities. I tend to run a little cool on Richard Attenborough at times, but his film of MAGIC hits the bullseye in my opinion. If Raimi casts well, I think he has the right sensibility to make this sinister and funny.
