Let’s be clear here, when scientists say mistakes were made at the start of the pandemic, we DO NOT mean that we did too much. We mean not socially distancing quickly enough, not making tests widely available, and not acknowledging COVID is airborne and distributing N95 masks to everyone.

Are you saying the DOJ withdrew that pool vandalism indictment… upon reflection?
The Fauci hearing was a disgrace. Here are some reminders of how it really went down in 2020. Never forget.
On July 31, 1987, an F4 (possibly an F5) tornado hit the eastern parts of Edmonton and Strathcona County. It left 27 dead, injured 300 and caused $332 million in damages. This is the story of Black Friday. 📸 Steve Simon 🧵 1/12
Any ideas on why the moderators of r/UCalgary would remove this story from the feed by two different posters two days running? breachmedia.ca/canadian-uni...
if you want to see normally sclerotic do-nothing local governments suddenly snap into action, do some quietly beneficial tactical urbanism type thing like this and watch how quickly they race to remove it
wishdaThe DSA in Wilmingotn, N.C. has created a "crisis" by putting benches at city bus stops, after literal decades of the city promising and failing to do so.
Chaperoning a preschool trip to the aquarium and one of the other dads who is vaguely familiar with what I do comes up to me and goes “man I sure hope we get some Nuremberg-style trials at the end of all this”
This guy would win in a landslide if he ran for office. I promise you there are SO MANY voters waiting for the "Were going through every file and we will find all of you" candidate to take on the New Gestapo. Establishment Dems will never hold anyone accountable. They had their chance and blew it

Sorry, I just saw this! But I wrote a very deep dive into the history of AIDS denialism a decade ago: gizmodo.com/the-deadly-l... I talked to some folks who are probably not around anymore, and got a ton of interesting info. Just in case it's relevant...
“We will accept anonymous submission for our plan on separation as long as you sign an NDA” is a sign of a very serious and well organized effort. With less than 3 months to the vote. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

This is a great website made by Edmonton City Councillor Aaron Paquette. I sort of thought Edmonton had pretty good flood infrastructure in place, in spite of what we've seen in the past weeks. This confirms it. Really incredible comms work. aaronpaquette.ca/rain

the point of most conspiracism isn't the prescription, it's the diagnosis. it lets people feel like they are cutting through complex information and accessing a secret truth. lab leak itself isn't always conspiratorial but this fauci stuff gives people a little hit of that.
mtswThe thing I can't really figure out about Lab Leak Theory is like... so what if it were true? Like is the idea that we could sue China for damages? That's not gonna work. It wouldn't really change anything both to how we responded to Covid and how we act going forward.
Time to offer this seminar again I see.
Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwòthere are a lot of philosophical concepts that get egregiously misused out of the seminar room (and in the seminar room, to be fair). but in terms of sheer pernicious misuse "social construct" has gotta be top 5 somewhere and it's not number 5
I think we should combine philosophy BlueSky's position that "flirting can be unintentional" with the emerging Gen Z norm that "flirting outside of dating apps is immoral" to create the most neurotic generation ever before seen.
Seth Cotlar is one of my favorite historians to follow.

But when the FBI or CIA or other institutions that have power think this way, then it starts to have real implications” — @sethcotlar.bsky.social
