Like, maybe, harm reduction and advocating for Palestinians (and unions and trans folks) all fall under the umbrella of *the dignity of all people!* And you could use that frame within the article! Maybe, I don't know, treat the addicts not as a policy issue to be solved but humans? Just a thought!

I don't see any mention of avocados.

You could call the local "pro-Palestine" group and ask, "So, just curious, why did you sign this letter about allowing unhoused people to use the bathroom? How does that intersect with your group's concerns?" The answer could reveal something about the underlying shared philosophies!

One question a writer could ask themselves upon seeing all these groups signing onto a letter about harm reduction would be, "Why might this issue be of concern to this broad a cross-section? Is it just blanket coalition support or some other shared concern?"

There are problems with decriminalization and safe injection sites. It's disingenuous to pretend otherwise. But this article is clearly seeking to undermine harm reduction strategies in general ("they don't work") rather than ask, "WHY aren't they working?"

There are scary black and white pictures of where unhoused people live! But no interviews from the perspective of someone who is trying to survive as an addict on the streets.

There's a lot of talk about maybe forcing addicts into treatment but not a single mention of how much treatment costs or if it's even available to people. And... did I miss an interview with an actual drug user? Is there really not a one?

And this is how you can tell it's an Atlantic article.

This is the tell that the writer hasn't really processed what harm reduction is about: The goal is not, in fact, "to try and stop people from getting addicted.” The goal of harm reduction is right there in the name: *harm reduction.*
