Saka, closing out, says "even if it's not a right, we heard dozens of people today say, from their perspective, that it is a right." That is not actually a point. It's describing people's self-righteous insistence that losing a delay tactic that's rather bespoke in Seattle is a gross injustice.

I will note that, as others have, that there is a stark, stark contrast in the ages and assets of delay supporters and delay opponents. Those who want more ways to appeal and delay housing are overwhelmingly older house owners; those who want housing are younger renters.
I'm going to add this to my examples of why it's important to show up, speak up, and keep fighting even though it seems like you're not going to win.

There's a lot of things horrible about this amendment but this might be the most heartbreaking. What's the point of being a "sanctuary city" if you're gonna starve out undocumented students?

Why are we debating which hungry kids to feed? Because we aren't willing to prioritize this issue above others when it comes to the budget.
Do we really want to give everyone and every business in the City the ability to negotiate and have legal leverage and extract concessions? We know who is more like to use those legal tools. It is more likely going to be wealthy and more connected folks who already have more influence than most.

I will lay it out for you nice and simple. The folks trying to stop new housing in Seattle are literally killing people. When ppl don’t have or can’t afford housing, they die. Or could be fast or slow but they die. Period. And these folks are fine with this because they are ecofascists.
