The guy that they want you to be terrified of (Mamdani) is making sure kids in NYC are fed all summer and people have access to cheaper groceries, all while they take food away from kids getting SNAP. Just sayin, feeding kids should make you the good guy.

But a lot of right-wingers talk a huge game about the evils of college and how much better it would be for everyone to be ideologically pure conservative long-haul truckers, while also pushing their kids to be doctors and lawyers.

Some right-wing parents don't bother--plenty of parents in our local school district are effectively pulling up the economic ladder behind them. They either have degrees and good jobs themselves, or have inherited land and money, but either way, they aggressively push their kids away from college.

Yes, this is a ludicrous way to view the world. Yes, a lot of educated right-wingers know how ludicrous it is and don't care. They viscerally hate higher education, but they still want their kids to be wealthy and successful someday.

The political right in general views *attending* college and *advocating for* college as two completely different things. *Attending* college is a necessary evil to get ahead, but *advocating for* college is wrong because college promotes leftist ideals.

I will reiterate: Christians in the West evangelize in public for the same reason men catcall. Neither is trying to persuade you; both are reminding you that the public sphere belongs to them and you exist in it at their sufferance.

I’m not sure why people are surprised by this. Christianity is, at the best of times, a marketing-focused ideology. But when there’s any significant pushback, it rapidly becomes an exercise in raw power, which is what this is. She’s asserting dominance, not trying to persuade.

Don't believe the Tories saying that Inheritance Tax is high in the UK. A threshold of £325K is only low for those with megamoney. In Belgium, the threshold is around €30K, for non direct relatives, with tiers of tax rates above as high as 50%.
