When someone has it as a part of their casual workflow, they forget it's even there, occasionally injecting a bad idea or a hallucination into things without their knowledge. It's like a cancer for creativity.

I am sorry you had to go through that. I have a very close friend who is immunocompromised and it was very upsetting to see how casually people and places made them unsafe and unwelcome during that time. I think it's a pretty similar phenomenon.
