The terms of the debate in my department has already ceded the ground that AI is inevitable, so we need to change assessments. What I mean is there's no resistance to the structural issues. But you're right that there's not none. I was feeling sad and frustrated.

Part of the point of this book is that Luddites weren't against technology, they were against the social effects of rolling technology out in ways that degraded and impoverished the working class. I have my own critiques of the book, but it did help me understand the history of the current moment.

Yes, blaming the technology itself rather than the decision makers who are integrating it is confusing the issue. All the talk is about inevitability, as if nobody is making the decisions.
