I LIKE a *lot* of shit: sci & tech (my day job!), environment & energy (ecomodernism), politics (~moderate, social-liberalism), culture & language(s), outdoors (mountains, cycling/MTB, sailing), travel, nuance & irony. I HATE black-&-white simplism!

I would have reluctantly taken the Trojan Horse, but only if it came with the receipt. That said, before it even went that far, I would have impressed on them my preference for gift vouchers.
Jamie McKelvieI wouldn't have accepted the Trojan Horse as a gift. For one thing, I wouldn't have anywhere to put it.
This is a very good, useful and timely piece. But talk of "introducing the Burnham lot to the MIS" strikes a wrong note for me. Knowing some of Burnham's economic advisors, I can assure you they don't need introducing to industrial strategy, they've been thinking deeply about it for some years.
www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/comment/indu... I've written a long blog introducing the Burnham lot to the Modern Industrial Strategy (MIS2025) that it's their honour to wrestle with. Lots to say....0/
The Times corrects its splash story headlined "Migrant care workers bring dozens of family members." The Times got this totally wrong. It then used its own error as the basis for an editorial calling explicitly for forced expulsions of people living here legally. www.thetimes.com/comment/regi...

++BREAKING++ The Daily Telegraph has... *rubs eyes* ...published something sensible about climate change: "I’m coming to the view that the Online Right is going wrong, eschewing compassion or charm, talking itself into corners of angry irrelevance. Take climate change."
Finally read the story, really good stuff from @jayboller.bsky.social racketmn.com/minnesotas-o...
Long overdue for The Spectator's Islamophobia to come under the microscope. Excellent piece from Peter Oborne here doing just that. It is now, he writes, just "an upmarket version of GB News" (same owner, of course)
3/ if you’re interested I can expand… I’m not sure people have explained why RE makes 1/ harder sufficiently (supply side rather than old demand side forecasting) possibly due to expert baseline ignoring obvious points. And in 2/ eg the challenges of inverter-based DC RE sources not touched on! 🤷♂️
