Farage has repeatedly claimed he would "put Clacton on the map". Again this framing actually helps Count Binface. Clacton would be globally famous if it elected the intergalactic space warrior. And who knows, Binface might even visit occasionally.

Some of this boils down to: I think many people would quite like to be the only place in the world with an 'alien' for an MP. And Farage's anti-establishment schtick actually helps this. What could be more anti-establishment than not even electing a human?

I think Count Binface's chances are undersold I don't necessarily (yet) think he'll win it, but I reckon he could do v well in Clacton: 1. He's the main opposition to Farage 2. It's funny. People like a good laugh 3. It would mean no 2nd byelection in a few months 4. Tourism boom & global fame

I've also come round to mandatory voting (it needs a better name btw) in recent years, but I think it would be a mistake to do it without implementing PR first for Westminster. Forcing people to vote under such a warped system feels wrong and at risk of backfiring.

It's fairly interesting that Labour are gaining ground under Burnham, which is exactly what they hoped for under a new leader... (whether it holds or not is of course an important Q) There are lots of elections before 2029 btw - including Greater Manchester mayoralty and Clacton by-election v soon
