That's in "break-even" territory with the modern movie profitability math, and that's still before anything from media sales and streaming. Thinly veiled excuse. Shame on you, Disney.

They've been itching to kill pixar for years since they fired Lasseter. They just finally got tired of waiting for an actual excuse and made one up. They're going to retain the IP rights, have the disney 3D animation team take over, and kill the name brand outright, or resign it to just AI slop.

Moana live action is literally right there. you should've fired the team that suggested and tried to market that as something people want. Hoppers is literally one of the best things you've been able to tack your company name on in the last few years.

Disney lit $250 million on fire by releasing a completely superfluous live-action remake and then looked at one of the only over-performing studios and decided it was their fault. I can't wait till Disney collapses and Pixar is able to be independent again.

All thinly veiled excuses, and we know it. This has nothing to do with the artists or movies, it has everything to do with whether a select few uber wealthy people can “make money number go up to infinity!” It’s greed, and the purest form of evil consistently and blatantly on display.

If a movie like Hoppers that actually made more money then it's production budget Is still not enough for them, Then at that point it's just greed that's just ruining Disney and Pixar.

Movie made $389.5M worldwide at the box office. Disney sees 50-60% of domestic and 20-40% (depending on country) of foreign box office takes. So, taking the generous side of that, the studio saw $189M of that, tops. Plus, that $150M budget doesn't include $15-20M advertising and distribution costs.

That is absolute bullshit. Every executive at Disney involved in these layoffs should be immediately stripped of all personal assets.

Hoppers was okay. It was certainly trying more within its confines. I can't say I had any desire to watch their live action content since Lion King. 😬

And Toy Story 5 earning over a billion dollars, while Disney's own Moana money pit was a far worse flop than Hoppers, wasn't even taken into consideration.

Now maybe i'm just naive but it feels extremely disingenuous to not include the entire cost, ie marketing, in the "budget" of the movie, and then say that making 389m against a 150m budget isnt "breaking even".

Here's the problem. No matter what, The mouse wants the old way back. Make a movie, Release, (be it theaters or evil streaming) Then it goes in the vault for a decade so when the re-release it, everyone will pay again to see it. Repeat. Anything else, they dont want.
