Tbf you could also say that about social media's impact on millennials. The difference is a matter scale, and the constant sensory stimulation from all of the above means the average zoomer has the attention span of a squirrel on crack (same with younger millennials who were exposed to it regularly)
The data would indicate otherwise but that aside, social media is just one piece of this. The outlook for young people in America -- cognition, communication, reading and writing, problem solving, socialization -- it's fucking bleak. Not *every* young person, but enough where I'm concerned for them.
Like you said, it's one component of a bigger picture, and millennials aren't immune, but it's only been compounded by the addition of LLMs and the sheer dominance of social media in mediating nearly every online interaction. Something younger people are susceptible to when this is seen as the norm.
I feel like society has gone through ages of "don't believe what you see on tv" to "don't believe what you see online" to "all hail the computer we must believe the computer" and finally with AI we will see a return to baseline of doubting veracity of claims. Only tangentially tied to generation tho
