I miss trains. Bring them back! Trains in giant train stations, trains at tiny depot stops. Meals on trains. Trains with sleeping cars like in "Some Like it Hot." I have a fever for trains surpassing my feverish need for more cowbell. I want trains.

Man, my grandmother used to watch The Secret Storm. I would be playing on the floor hanging out with her, and I can still remember the bit at the end with some waves crashing on the seashore with some kind of melodramatic music playing and someone saying to tune in next time.

I am so happy for her, too. I fell in love with classical Greek my second year of college. Years later I did a translation of the Symposium just for fun and ended up using it with my students later on when I taught it. So much fun to just photocopy it for them (it was typed, no computer then😂).

There was almost always a student who would invariably sit on the front row of my classes and not get things like this. And when they talked, all the students sitting behind them would widen their eyes in disbelief. "How do they sleep at night?"--and such a student would offer their theories on it.
