Saw a sign yesterday that said ’hot people support hot people’ and I think they meant it to be affirming but instead it just stated one of the frustrating things about hot people.

I still don't understand how this could have won. The Midway sign points to the wrong place, the pigs are tagged 1, 2, and...1? There are some floating cable cars. It just seems sloppy! Compare it to fifth place! www.ohiostatefair.com/p/get-involv...
"brave heterodox contrarianism" is having bad opinions shared by 100% of our rulers but only 20% of online posters
so much centrist discourse is centrists looking at policy arguments they WON (usually to disastrous effect) and pretending actually they lost and got put in gulags over it
bob barker 🍸why do so many of you follow this person
If I hear one more politician say “they have to want help” in regards to homeless people while shelters are full of abuse, public housing wait lists are YEARS, the for-profit prison system exists, and our public health system is a fucking joke, I’m gonna lose my fucking mind.
I am making it a habit to always look for the labor story behind these nasty scandals. The consumers are almost never the only ones being harmed.
never thought short form video would be able to capture a type of humor i can only describe as “the far side-esque” but this comes close.
There was a very strong “the machine built for eating people must get back to eating people as soon as possible” vibe coming from halls of power and platforms of influence.
the Mountain GoatsI agree strongly with this -- in that difficult moment, the possibility of collective effort was conceivable. Not everybody felt it, but many did. I think the political class did not like this one bit.
I think it also revealed just how quickly a bunch of otherwise very hard problems can be to solve with global collective action. The fuckin Ganga was running clear water for the only time in my lifetime because for 2 weeks nobody threw garbage in it. The canals in Venice had fish.
Dave AndressCovid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.
Jokes aside, I see people go "I think I'm trans but I'm not gonna address it because of all the difficult stuff, what would I get out of it?" And the answer is true joy. That's what you get out of it. Unless you face yourself, fully and completely, and know who you are, you will never find true joy.
Jay Hulme"Being trans is sad Being trans is horrid." Shut up. Being trans is great. Look. I've got inner peace and a fucking scythe.
The core argument is that cities like Seattle are so addled by left-wing ideology that they have fallen into dystopia. In reality, the city has never adequately funded harm reduction programs and continues to rely on incarceration to address homelessness. What Powell wants is what we're doing.
People potentially subject to the nyc pied-à-terre tax are being treated with 1% of the administrative hostility of SNAP and Medicaid applicants, and they’re throwing 100x the fit
What's remarkable about the current iteration of "AI" is not the technology itself, but the manner in which its owners have hoodwinked entire governments into ploughing endless resources into maintaining its infrastructure. It only works because we're seemingly willing to spend any amount on it.
This makes sticking up for us riskier than it otherwise would be and since cis people are fundamentally unwilling to ever take any kind of risk in our defence, they were always going to fold.
I truly feel for kids growing up now who will have to unlearn using AI, but if you've been writing for more than 2 years it is the easiest thing in the world to just Keep Doing The Thing You Did and ignore AI tools!! It makes me feel crazy that people act like this isn't the case!!!
Maddy Myers 🏳️🌈it's actually sad as hell to use AI for research when research is the fun part. you can just email people and call them on the phone and ask them questions about the thing that they have expertise in. you can read documents & learn cool shit. ok now i'm just talking about how being a reporter is fun
"When the detainees looked into the container, they saw more worms. Parias said that after finding the worms, detainees collected around seven to ten worms inside a soda bottle so they could preserve them as evidence of the conditions they were experiencing inside the facility."
L.A. TACODetainees at Adelanto ICE Processing Center claim that staff have provided them with water from an unknown source that is routinely contaminated. A video L.A. TACO received backs this up. The full story: lataco.com/contaminated... By Aisha Wallace-Palomares
Well, it’s invoicing day, and since they’re really apparently not going to pay me for something I wrote for them two months ago, I guess today is the day to post about how @vulture.com fucks over its film freelancers. Long (sorry) thread, with receipts:
