I’ve mentioned this before (and tagged her), but strolling past the dealers and towards the concessions at Otakon in my crossplay when I hear someone yell out “holy shit, Rumbling Hearts!” and it’s translator @le-kaitsu.bsky.social having recognized my obscure cosplay.

And the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist series aired on American TV. Dubbed! On Cartoon Network, a channel nearly everyone got! It was very popular!

I fondly remember Entertainment Weekly’s review of the first Fullmetal Alchemist movie, which confidently asserted “the thing about anime is, it isn’t supposed to make sense”. Written by a home video columnist who hadn’t watched (or perhaps wasn’t even aware of) the 2003 TV series.

It’s weird how on one hand you can have a widely-believed claim that anime was shunned and rejected in the 90s, and on the other hand you can have multiple documentaries (including a prominent one in the works) about the rise of anime that basically end in the 90s with anime triumphant.

Yeah, the controller is a Nhuad. It’s got two sticks, eight buttons (the full compliment of top and shoulder buttons for PS, Xbox, Switch), plus home/+/-, so most games should at least be possible, although complicated layouts like Splatoon will be a challenge. nhuadcontrollers.com
