I fondly remember Entertainment Weekly’s review of the first Fullmetal Alchemist movie, which confidently asserted “the thing about anime is, it isn’t supposed to make sense”. Written by a home video columnist who hadn’t watched (or perhaps wasn’t even aware of) the 2003 TV series.
